Ok, I desperately need your help.

My Loving and patient wife has finally reached the breaking point on my Knife Addiction.

The issue is testing edges by shaving hair off of my arms/legs/etc. I have done this so much that she can no longer stand it.

If I don't find another way to test my edges she has promised to NAIR EVERYTHING but my EYEBROWS while I am asleep.

Please help me. I have tried using Large Commercial Kleenexes but they are not as definitive as a clean shave of arm hair. Probably because I can feel sharpness feedback when I shave.

Wow. No kidding, my wife is the same way! She gets mad at me, as I do the same exact thing. I imagine that there are others out there as well. Good post.

Dude, just push the edge up lightly against the hair on your head. If it bites into the hair, it's sharp. If it's really sharp, it will make hairs fall out with very little effort. Since there is a good deal of hair on your head, unless you are bald, you can do this without any noticeable weirdnesses (bald arms).

I've found this very useful because of my Asian heritage. I have an almost complete lack of arm and leg hair! So I have to use the hair on my head. There are other areas I have hair on as well, but I'd rather not shave down there.

Ya I know were you're comin from. Stubble arm syndrome causes big problems in this house to. I do the leg thing once in a while during the summer when I'm just sharpening a batch of blades wearing cutoffs trying to stay cool. Gets me condemed to my side of the bed faster than the old stubble arm syndrome thats for sure.
Try a slow draw accross a sheet of cigarret paper. Once you get the hang of it you can feel the not so sharp areas of the blade.

My wife just accepts the bare left arm as part of the package that also keeps her kitchen knives in top shape. You could try drawing the blade lightly across a fingernail or thumbnail, it takes a pretty good edge to catch on a nail.

Actually John, If it catches on your fingernail it just means it has micro serrations in the edge. I have a S**ty draw through shaperner that makes this kind of edge. But when i strop my straight razor to a stupendously sharp edge, it won't catch a fingernail at all. Chang had a good idea, just don't push too hard if you want to avoid an emergency trip to the hairdresser. (Even worse, imagine explaining to your wife how you cut your scalp

I got in a wreck one time and when they took me to the hospital they took a look at my right right arm with patches of the hair gone and said 'poor man" and then dosed me for having the mange as well.

Toss a sheet of typing paper in the air and cut it lengthwise while it's still in the air. With practice you can do it with a 2 inch blade if it's SHARP. Be darn careful til you get the hang of it. Saves the hair for the lovely lady.
