Suggestion New thread privilege delay?

There's a pattern on this site of people joining and immediately starting a thread. They want members to tell them how much their knife is worth, what the ultimate steel is, whether their ZT is fake, etc. They haven't read the rules, they're in the wrong forum, they've done no research for themselves on their question, etc. Have we ever considered an enforced delay between opening a new account and starting a new thread? If newbies have to post in established threads, they might become acculturated.

Forcing folks to get a post count before they can start a thread will just result in new members posting 5 meaningless comments in random threads before posting their own thread, making a bigger mess than what currently happens.

Time delay, not post count.

Time delay, not post count.

I was basing my reply off of the last sentence in your post:

This points towards forcing newbies to post in established thread, i.e. a post count minimum to start threads. If what you're thinking of is a time delay, it would really do very little to stop the 'spam' you're seeing as most people are more than willing to just wait whatever time is required before posting a thread.

What is the problem with new members posting threads? Sure some of them haven't read the rules but most of them are just curious like I was when I first joined. I almost started a thread of my own with my first post, I didn't because I used the search feature first but most folks already have a question in mind when they decide to sign up to the forums and a delay won't stop them from asking it, it'll just give them a poor taste of the forums right off the bat; not a good move in my opinion.

What does any of this have to do with bots?
That's a typical fix on a website under seige by bots. I'm not sure if you've ever seen it here but sometimes GKD will fill up with weird posts about sports streaming or full on wingdings posts.

Humans unfortunately are smart enough to work around that while at the same time not smart enough to read the rules.
