New thumb ridges.......found a picture!!!

From a purely aesthetical standpoint, I'd have to say the old ridges look better because there are 3 small ridges that run along the entire top edge of both handle slabs, save for the bottom. Functionally, the new ones would probably give the thumb a much better grip than the old ridges, which might or might not be why CRK decided to change them.

Oh well, I guess this just gives us another reason to buy a new Sebenza!:D

Thanks for posting the pic, Rhesus.

i used to think everything about the new seb was better, but now i like the classic much more, including its thumb ridges. they're smaller and more abundant, seem to dig in better.

I have an order for a large Regular...
Will all the new Sebenza have this kind of thumb ridges ?

I don’t like it very much, I prefer the old style !!!
:(

Thanks for finding that.

But is it me or is the blade shape different too? It looks slightly pointier - like a classic blade (or it may have a swedge which is difficult to spot)

I don't think so, but don't take my word for it. So far I've only seen those thumb ridges on the new small reg. The most recent large reg I've seen was made in January and still had the classic thumb ridges.

Well, my small reg with a June birthdate has the older ridges. This must be something they've started just after Blade.

The new ridges are similar to the ridges found on the underside of the handle slabs. Aesthetically, they don't look as classy as the original, but being of similar size and proportion to the ridges on the titanium, it adds a certain symmetry to the knife. After having had a chance to use the knife a little over the weekend, I find them much more secure because you can jam more meat from your thumb in the recesses. I always found the originals to be impressive from a machining standpoint, but in actual usage, they didn't offer much "gripability" due to the rounded corners. That may be subjective however, because my thumbs are oversized, calloused, and abused. ;)

The blade on this and other Sebenzas of recent vintage are definitely a bit pointier. The earlier 98, 99, 00 Sebs had more belly and less drop from the spine the point. Not as pointy as a Classic, not as beefy as earlier "regular" Sebenzas but somewhere between the two.

personally i think the old ridges aren't very good in terms of security. There are a lot of ridges but they are smooth and rounded, you can push down on the ridges hard with your thumb and still slide it forward and backward pretty easily

My small reg LH was born July 14. It does not have those thumb ridges, it has the smaller, more abundant ones.

Just heard back from Bridget today.

Mine was part of a semi-experimental run of about 40 or so.

They are planning to change over to the new thumb serrations ASAP,"but, it will be 6 months or more before they show up on all folding knives." (her exact words)

Looks like they are here to stay!

Personally, I like 'em.

Changes are coming ladies and gents. I'm hoping backspacers will become available as an option for existing knives.

I like 'em. Glad I've waited this long to buy a small. Guess I'll wait another 6 months or so.

seems like the newer ones are more secure but the older ones is more refined... kinda. anyways, i hope to see a backspacer option too. Supposedly the lisa's pick sebenzas this month has a customized backspacer.

Like the new ridges. Darn and I just placed an order for a small... Guess I'll have to order another when they go production!
