FYI the new tigerclaw is not using the new triad lock design anymore. Check out CS website they recently updated the picture and the description.

I just checked the CS website, it says Triad lock...

What is this new version or modifed triad lock everyone was hoping for?

Modified. It had studs up front near the pivot and was supposed to offer true one-handed, ambidextrous opening and closing. It was, pretty literally the only reason I was signed up for one.

To be honest, i'm more concerned about that single T6 screw holding the entire back end of the scale together. Looks like a single point of failure to me, i.e. the entire lower part of the folder will become weak if that screw happens to be stripped.

Regarding the lock change, i don't actually care. The original NEW triad lock design may be useful for a more conventional folder such as Recon 1, but not for a karambit, if you are holding it like how a karambit is supposed to be held most of the time(reverse grip with index finger in the ring). It's what the karambit is designed for. It may be harder to release the newer lock when you hold the karambit the traditional way.

It looks like they are going back to earlier designs of the Triad, where there was an extra long screw in the pocket clip, going deeper into the aluminum back spacer. So it will have more than just the 2 screws holding it in. You see, there are no screws in the clipless side, like there are in newer linerless Triad versions

Bummer. I'll still get one. But I was really looking forward to that design. Must have been one of those great in theory, but not so much in reality type things. Or the manufacturer just could not get it right, so they had to go in another direction.

The tiger claw would interest me if it was smaller. Like it is now I think its designed to fit your whole hand on it without using the ring to give it versatility. But if I want a karambit I want to use the ring and have it fit my hand that way. The spyderco karahawk seems more the right size. Its a shame though. The triad lock would be awesome for a karambit.

+1. My first impression of the tiger claw is its awkward size. Most of the karambits in the market today are designed by people who doesn't know kali/silat. Most are way too big and are only suited for forward grip. You can tell by the placement of the pocket clip(search schrade karambit for example). The only few exception are Emerson karambit and fox599. Karambit does not need to be big, a 2.5 inch blade is more than enough, and most importantly the handle should only be big enough for 3 fingers excluding the ring. You lose cutting power & leverage the longer the handle becomes, since it's the tip that does most of the cuttings.

I don't have any info about the Tiger Claw yet.
I'm eagerly awaiting one myself.
I've seen prototypes with both versions of the lock over the last year or so.
I'll share more info as I get it
Thanks
