Actually I will be calling this a Kit Knife, as it`s too long to fit in an Altoids tin. Overall it`s 4 1/2", with a 1 3/4" cutting edge, made out of either 3/32" or 1/8" O1. Price for these with a pocket/neck kydex sheath will be $35.00 Delivery will start in early April.

Here it is compared to the old model. 3/4" longer handle, and 1/2" longer cutting edge, for a full 3 finger grip.

For $15.00 additional charge ($50.00 total) I will put handles on. I would just need to know how thick to make them.

Pretty cool. I might need to pick one of these up, I could see myself using it as a neck knife, and I usually don't like neck knives.

John,
Put me down for one in 1/8" and let me know what options you offer for the handle.
Thanks,
William

Will do. Handles options are walnut, lacewood, rosewood, cocobolo, bloodwood, oak, maple, tulipwood, and red, green, black micarta. I`m sure I missed a few, my website shows them all. Email me and let me know what you want.

That little bit extra will make it a bit more confortable in use. I still love the small size of my Tin Knife as a backup blade though. Looks good!

John,
I tried sending you an email this morning but it came back as "undeliverable", I will try again later today.

If you can`t get through, just send a pm with all the info (including Vic sheath) along with your name and address.

This post made me think about another design that I've been kicking around in my head for a little while. Similar concept, but slightly different layout.

A little background first. I'm an engineer and spend the majority of my working hours behind a desk and a reasonable amount out on our production floor or in one of the labs. Our dress code is loosely defined a "business casual" or khakis and a polo. As such, it isn't really practical to carry a fixed blade knife, even one of the smaller EDCs, because I simply don't have anywhere to put it. Most of the folders that I like are crazy expensive and I've always preferred fixed blades. So, loosely based on the dimensions of John's kit knive, I came up with the following:

picture.php

The handle profile would be fashioned the same as John's new Kit knife and the handles would be the same as what John did on the contest Tin Knife for protourist. The blade would be the same length as described above, but a Wharncliffe instead of a drop or clip point. I think this looks less menacing and would be considered more office friendly.

The last piece of the puzzle is the sheath. I envisioned a back pocket kydex sheath that would position the knife to the right side of the right back pocket. I'm thinking a base piece of kydex roughly the width of the average back pocket, possibly with a cutout in the middle of the top for the button to go through and hold the sheath in place. It sounds kind of crazy, but looks good in my head:D Any thoughts on feasibility.

I really like the design, and the back pocket sheath sounds like a good idea. Also perhaps a pocket clip could be attached to the sheath and it could ride with a clip where a folder normally does.

As far as the office environment goes, you could perhaps make it even more sheeple friendly by not having black micarta handles. Some nice wood or even micarta of a different color (red, green) might make it less "scary" looking.

Although I think it's pretty tough to look any less scary than John's tin/kit knives, the wharny would definitely be good. And I love that blade shape anyway, especially for edc/shop work.

Wood handles would be a must for making the knife look less tacti-cool. Maybe some of that tulipwood or bloodwood would look cool on that design.

Also to split hairs, that design is more of a sheepsfoot than a wharny. A wharncliffe usually comes to a pretty sharp point.

Kind of like this?

I guess it should be called a sheepsfoot then because the point is to not have a point, at least not much of one. I forgot to include the name of the knife, EEDC for Executive EDC (keeping in mind that I'm using the term executive very loosely).
