So I am going out tomorrow to scout out a XC mountain course for a race I am hosting and I realized that I need to restock my fire kit, and then realized that i had no PJ or Cotton balls left in the house
My Swedish fire steel is missing too so I figure I moved things and forgot where I put them and everything is together somewhere in the house or garage. So I went out and bought a blast match today and just tried a little improvised tinder with dryer lint and fatwood filings mixed together. It went up with one push on the blast match and burned for a long time and was hot. It burned long enough that I had to put it out after about 5 minutes. I think I may have just found a new fire starter that is cheap and easy, I still have to try it out in the damp and wet so time will tell.
I am liking the blast match too, simple to use and no risk of spreading my tinder with a bad strike
