So i finally got some g10 scales for these bad boys. I never thought of upgrading the stock scales on my beckers, thinking them quite efficient, until i was using the bk20 to build a wikiup shelter. It just wanted to roll in my hand! This was not a problem i have had with any other becker. I ended up using my Junglas for the rest of the project and found that the flatter , more rectangular scales helped to keep the knife from twisting in my hand. So i asked around here and found that not only did the g10 offer an excellent grip but that they were a little slimmer and slightly less contoured... perfect! I decided to get some for the 5 as well because ever since i got that knife in my hands i felt that the handle was too big and felt bulky for a knife that was so slim and had such finesse. Not only did this fix the problems i was having, but it made both knives look and feel like an even better quality than before. Unfortunately i feel the need to upgrade all of my becker handles now...
I didnt take measurements before i got the g10 on (too excited) but after the bk20 handle comes in at about 1 inch thick which is about the same as the bk9 woth stock handles and i have never had a complaint with the 9. The bk5 comes in at about 3/4 of an inch at its thickest which i feel suits the knife. Now i need to find/make some liners to keep my 9 at an inch thick with the g10...
i will update this thread with some action shots this weekend but for now:

That's the one thing that I didn't like about the TKCs on the Beckers, was how slim they made the handle. I guess I'm partial to a nice round contoured handle.
it depends on the knife for me. The added thickness of the bk 20 made it too round for my hand and made it a little scary to chop with. But thats just me. They feel great and if you wanted to keep the thickness you could always add liners. Or i heard the micarta is pretty thick, i just wish i could find it in black, i would try that out on my bk9 for sure.
EDITED TO ADD: i guess the g10, even with liners for thickness, are still not quite as round or contoured as the stock/micarta

With the thickness of the bk20 at .25'' I could see it becoming too thick and rounded for some hands. I had the same problem with a highly modded camillus machax, which is also .25''. The stock camillus handles were thicker than the kabar handles. It did make it feel like it could roll in my hand. So I just put a set of extra kabar handles on it and it seem to do the trick. Normally Im very against the TKC handles because they are as you say thinner than the stock handles. But this thread has made me think about getting a new set of scales from TKC for that camillus machax. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice man.
thanks warrior! I probably wouldnt have come out of my shell if it werent for you, thank you for that extra nudge!

thanks! If you havent decided on them by the time im done testing maybe we could work the shipping out and i could send a pair to you to try and see if its something that would work for you. I would highly recommend them, for what its worth.

Hey man, I'm there for ya like that. :D

On a side note, I'm not sure if I'd like those grips, being that they're grippy, haha.

What I do like about thd tkc scales is the absence of the center hole. My damn nerve damaged middle finger of my choppa hand always finds its way into it and it hurts like hell. (Get your minds out the gutter ya bunch of animals)

i could see how that would be a bummer if your chopping allot. I will say the texture (or lack of) is pretty smooth for g10. Definitely not as harsh as cold steels textured g10. I will go chop my heart out this weekend and let you know if it was a bad idea lol.

i think it gives it a nicer look with the two bolts sitting flush on both sides.

Right on. I don't mind grippy when it comes to general use, but chopping, don't care for it much.
