So I went ahead and got my very first Benchmade knife. A Mini Grip. I have no complaints at all, it looks and feels great.

I have one question about the lock, though. I've never had a knife with an axis lock, so I don't know what it's supposed to look like. It seems to lock up fine, but I notice that the button (or whatever it's called) looks like it has space to move forward. Is it supposed to be seated all the way forward, or is that room for wear as the mechanism breaks in? I took a picture, and hopefully it shows the space:

Thanks in advance for the help.

I checked mine and all mine are seated all the way forward when fully opened and fully closed. I would send that pic to Benchmade
I wonder if you have a burr on your tang.......:foot:

It's normal. I have several that are like that. Enjoy your new knife!

Yep normal. Use it.

The angle in lock face allows the lock to be solid no matter where it falls. Some will be later, some earlier.

Is this a Grip/mini grip thing? The Benchmades I have are fully seated. Don't have a grip...yet

Your looks like it has room to break in:thumbup: I had never really looked, but I have two and one looks like yours and the other goes all the way forward. As long as the lockup is solid just enjoy your new blade!

Thanks for all the replies. Especially when it's the answer I wanted :)
