Hey everyone, I finally took the plunge into the crazy world of beckers with the BK11, I've wanted one for a while but finally got around to buying it. I love how the factory micarta scales look on it, so I chose it over the BK14. And I'm a sucker for the bottle opener :D

Anyway, on Amazon I saw this picture of a modded BK11:

It says they used a bench grinder to do it (which I have), but does anyone have better instructions for a newbie? I hope I'm making you guys proud by intending to mod my first Becker as soon as I can.

I have a grinder, But I am a total noob with it.

Welcome to the madness, my friend. enjoy your new Becker.

Just use a sharpie to draw out the metal you wanna remove (draw the clip point on the knife), grind it off and clean it up with a dremel or sandpaper. Its very easy, just dont destroy the heat treat or grind off the tip. Let me know If I wasnt clear.

Only advice I can offer is draw it on first and go SLOW! dip in water to keep it cool. General rule of thumb is if its too hot to touch to your lips, its too hot. You can screw up the heat treat real quick. Welcome and good luck

TAPE THE EDGE SEVERAL TIMES

if you slip, or the grinder throws it, your fingers will be clip points

think safety. eye protection. gloves.

do not get the blade hot!

it would almost be better to use a proper metal cutting saw for the large pieces

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Perhaps this won't be my first mod, I've rushed into using power tools before and the results weren't so great at first ;) Although if I do ever try this, I will be sure to post pictures. I think I will stick with the easy mods first!

I would just mark it, and grind on it with my belt sander, dipping in water very often.

Like the others said, tape the edge well, keep it cool. Plan plan plan plan, Go slow. It's easy to take more off cant really put more back on. I say go for it and post pictures it looks very cool.
