Hi all,

Like the title says, I'm new to everything here. I have spent a lot of time lurking in the threads looking at all things Becker. Every question I've had about Beckers is here and already been asked, so I have nothing new to add or anything "outside the box" to discuss. (Threads from 2008? What could I possibly have that's new? LOL)

I have been obsessed with knives for as long as I can remember but have never ventured into learning about the knife making process or design. I just liked cool knives. However, for a long time I was really into the so called "designer" knives and larger Bowies (effing Rambo and Gill Hibben got me interested in that BS) but could never afford the nice high end ones. So, I always looked but never bought. I always settled on some cheap made folder. Well, I joined the Army Infantry and always had a bayonet. I liked it on the hip but they were crappy, and to be honest, a pain in the ass because we carried them and never used them (dead weight). Anyway, it was about this time that Spyderco was becoming popular. I think they were the first mass produced tactical folders at this time, and everyone loved the serrated blade. I bought 4 in my 6 years active infantry and I will say this.......Spyderco sucks (well at least the "Endura"). Everyone of the blades eventually dulled to crap (I had no idea how to sharpen a serrated blade) and they all broke in some manner. I abused the hell out of them and will (I don't care how awesome they are) never buy one again.

Of course, my learned abuse of the Spyderco's is what kept me buying cheap shit even after I switched MOS.

more conversation followed, but was auto logged out, hit the submit button not realizing I was no longer logged in, lost everything after MOS. I'm not typing that stuff again....or I will.....just not tonight.

Bought a 2 for Xmas, and I know its the first of many other Beckers. Sheath mod will be in the works soon. I'll post pics. If we survive past the 21st.

welcome too the forum and i should think we will survive past friday so get those pics ready cause we love pics here!!!

Welcome.
Nothing wrong with the Spyderco Endura. It just is what it is.
If you want a better, hard-use Spyderco, you ought to try a Paramilitary. Maybe in D2.

Welcome to the forums man. Tip one, few people actually make a folder durable enough for long term survival of the real abuses of a combat environment. They are out there, but the ones that will are pricey. Tip two, and take this from somebody who does a lot of writing here, checking the "remember me" box on log in can save a lot of frustration. I have put a lot of knives, made by a lot of companies, through a lot of uses and abuses. There are a good handful of knife makers whose knives I trust out in the bush and BK&T is one of them. They definitely get my vote when it comes to amount of bang per buck spent. Ka-Bar's 1095CV is hard to beat, and ya gotta love knives designed by a man whose favorite pass times include cooking, spending time in the bush,...and cooking in the bush :)

Welcome to Beckerville! If you want a REALLY tough and awesome pocket / edc knife get a be 14 or an 11. I've been edc-ing a 14 for months and will never go back to a folder.

Welcome to the forum.
Another Oregonian? You guys are taking over!
Enjoy the 2. It's a beast!

Welcome...

I have a few Spydies. I like em. The delica, endura, and Police are great knives imo but they aren't "hard use" like my Beckers. I actually had a pocket custom sewn into one of my suits just for the Police. I don't rely on them like I do my Beckers though, and they do take some time to maintain.

Thanks to all of you. Your knowledge and experience is really appreciated.
Ok, it’s possible I was a bit harsh with my opinion of Spyderco. They did serve a purpose and I will concede that they did serve me well, until they no longer could. I got my money's worth with them and that's really all I want in the end.

To retype what I lost last night:
Ok, well my EDC knife, I carry this one all the time, is a Gerber “something or other” folder. Yes, I realize the steel and scales are relative crap, but I really enjoy the assisted opening on it. I used to have a Benchmade (auto) I got as a gift, but when I was returning from Astan, the Navy Customs wouldn’t let me bring it back. They took it from me, the bastards, and I was super pissed!!!! Well, I’m too cheap to replace it, so I got this cheap ass Gerber.
I was also gifted a couple of CRKT fixed blades and I really like them; one looks like a Tanto pointed dart and the other is the spear point Sting. I have never used the Sting and it’s practically brand new. The Sting I also took to Astan, and it never left my pack. But I really liked knowing it was there. Comfort comes in all aspects I guess.
Moved to Oregon in 2006 and I love it out here. Well, I love the Oregon outdoors that is. Camping and outdoor recreation in this area is just outstanding. My family and I have really done a lot of camping in the PNW and there are no plans to slow down. So, in all this camping I realized I needed a good camp knife. I wasn’t interested in folders and the few I have, I would use, but never trust to do some of the more hardcore chores for camping. I have relied on hatchets and my cheap folders to do all the work.
So, in the last few months I have been on the lookout for a reasonably priced, yet sturdy, fixed blade camp knife. I looked into the Bushcraft knives and even the survival and tactical knives, but was disappointed in cost or just untrusting of them in general. I was concerned with blade thickness and cost. As you may have surmised, I am particularly harsh on my blades, so I wanted one that even I couldn’t break. I looked around and found the KABAR website. Well, I can say it was love at first sight when I saw the Becker’s. I couldn’t believe there were ¼” thick knives out there which weren’t “tacted” out. I watched several you tube videos on the Becker’s and decided the one I needed was the BK2. Then I found BF and the BKT subforum, and well, that’s that. Choice made, BK2!!
So, I ordered it and my wife said…”not until xmas.” (Argh, I hate Xmas sometimes)

Yes, pics to follow.

Welcome - may your credit cards rest in peace. :) You'll be getting more Beckers reading this sub-forum. >:)

They tried this with me too. I even had the letter that said I could have it. However I had a Benchmade and a Gerber auto they told me pick what one I wanted to keep they were taking the other one. I was livid.
