Hi all,
I registered for Blade forums after a recommendation from the Kabar website. While I have a collection of over 30 knives, I am relatively new to the terminology and learning the functions and cababilities of knives. I'm very excited.
Anyway, I am interested in the Becker Necker. I have recently discovered that while I do have knives that I can actually use, I would like to have a good, quality all around knife. I would like for you all to offer some suggestions/comments about whether the BK11 would be a good knife for me.
I am a cyclist and am making the transition from road to mountain biking this spring/summer. I carry various tools (2 pocket knives and multitool) with me when I ride on the road, just in case something comes up. I was thinking that the BK11 would be a good addition to my newly formed emergency kit because it is fairly small and according to all the stuff I've read is very functional. It may sound paranoid, but I don't like to be in the woods without stuff in case something happens. I'm an avid hiker, but a lot more could go wrong/happen if I'm riding a bike out there. The BK11 seems to be an all around good tool to have in addition to my other blades/tools/stuff.
I cannot wear it around my neck, but if I don't wear it attached to my cargo shorts belt, i think I've figured out how to lash it to my bag so it will be easily accessible.
Is my thinking solid? There are hundreds of other knives out there, but for value, quality, function I think that this knife would be ideal for me. Am I wrong? Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Grayson

Having a tough fixed blade is a good choice as your pocket knives will handle the small stuff, the bk11 is close to bomb proof and easy to pack. Get a little coghlans pocket saw(4in) for 6$ weighs 1oz. The 3/16 stock helps splitting/battoning. Don't forget to wrap the sheath with 10 ft of 550paracord.

As it happens, I've just ordered a Necker. I'm also a pretty avid cyclist, and one of the reasons the Necker appeals to me is because it will be able to go in my bike tool pouch (a detachable day-pack pocket, actually) with ease--and likely weather the abuse of bashing into other tools well.
