New to Board & Neck Knives

New to the board!

I’m looking for a high-quality Neck Knife to wear all-day, everyday—Open carry as well as concealed under a T-shirt. Can anyone list some suggestions?

I like the Neck Shobu made by Steve Corkum of Hawk Knives ( www.hawkknives.com ) featured in the May 2000 issue of Tactical Knives. Anyone has input on this knife? How would this compare to the Bud Nealy MCS knives?

Thanx!

Be prepared for a thousand answers.Alot of suggestions will depend on a price range. Some people will suggest some very good inexpensive neck knives and some will suggest expensive ones.I've had a couple of Nealy's and find his multiple carry system to be about the best.Kurt Meerdink makes some great neck knives and actually apprenticed under Nealy for a number of years.I saw a pic of the shobu and thought it was a nice knife.I think that because of where the knife will be most of the time, exposed to salt and sweat.I feel your choices should be something that is made of stainless. You may hear difference of opionions on this and I'm sure people wear the carbon steel knives without incident, but I think for the knife on bare skin carry its better to get something stainless.Good Luck,Ralph

Burt..Welcome to the Forums!! I think you'll like it here.

You might check out the NK-1 and the "Harrier" on my website. My steel preferances are for M2 high speed and D2. The D2 is close enough to stainless to count in my opinion, if that is an issue.

Also check out RJ Martin, Dr Lathe, and Newt Livesay. The Corkum knives are great too.

"Blues" may check in here after while and he is a good one to listen to as neck knives are his favorite carry knives and he has a bunch of them.

See ya around the Forum,

Welcome. I too am new. I have found a little research often answers my questions. Check out "make me a neck knife nut" on 06.11.00. It should answer your question.

Thanks to everyone for the welcomes and replies.

Both are good choices along with Neck Knives from Rob Siminich, Ed Chavar,
Lynn Griffith,Fred Perrin, Bob Dozier and Wally Hayes to name a few. They all have somthing different to offer, both in the style of their blades as well as the uniqueness of their carry system. One thing is for sure, they all have quality product. The real problem is choosing between them if you are looking for only one.

Welcome Burt, Thanks GaryB!
There are so many good neck knives out there. I own and carry other makers knives in addition to my own.
With my next order of Talonite, I hope to make MYSELF one of my Tanto Neck Knives. I obtained a piece of rather RARE rag Micarta for the grips. (THANKS TOM) It should look cool, and be great around the salt water here in FL. I don't own Talonite neck knife yet so I'm realy looking forward to this

Above is a link to my review of the neck shobu. Great little knife.

I also own knives by many of the makers posting or talked about here....Gary Bradburn, Neil Blackwood, Rob Simonich etc.

I'd have a hard time picking my favorite, so just buy the one you want now and then save up for the next one. (It works for me.

There are many great production and custom kneck knives out there.

Some of the favorites I own are by Blackwood, RJ Martin, Griffith, Crawford, and Emerson Knives. Great neck knives are also available from Wally Hayes, Allen Blade and many more

I agree with Blues - buy one you like and then keep looking for something else that strikes your fancy. There is a nice piece which mentions neck knives in the latest Tactical Knives issue also FYI (Street Smarts article).

Enjoy whichever you end up with!
