I figured since I spend most of my time lurking here in the Busse section (and the Busse FS section), I would make my first post on BladeForums here.

I am a young pup in the knife world, and after having bought and sold (rinse and repeat) and handful of knives, Busse's offerings have caught my attention fiercely.

Being on a military paycheck doesn't afford me being able to go hog wild, I want to start building a collection of quality tools that will last.

I am still trying to grasp all of the different styles of Busse's, and also the relationship with Swamp Rat and Scrapyard, but I'm sure you guys will lead me down the correct path.

Someday I'll be able to tuck enough cash away a big ass grail for Busse steel.

See you on the forums,
Alex

Welcome, Alex!
Figuring out all of the Busse models, and their abbreviations can seem daunting at first.
Have fun, use the search function, read a lot, and drool frequently.
Your first taste of Infi will take that fiercely caught attention to a whole new level.
Enjoy the madness.

Welcome Alex, I found that if you eat alot of pbj samitches and ramen noodles and drink coors light or water. You should be able to save some dough up for Busse knives that way. I'm getting used to the Busse diet its not so bad, and you get to buy some awesome pieces of Infi too. Take care and have fun, there is alot to see around here.;)

Welcome slaimd...you're in for a real treat. INFI just can't be beat (well actually it can but it won't hurt it much) and neither can the Busse community. Hope you enjoy your time here and we look forward to getting to know you:thumbup:

when INFI sleeps it dreams of being beaten and used.

and it cries tears of frustration and sadness when left alone.

it's likely the most masochistic and resilient steel ever invented.

Welcome and my condolences.;)
It ain't cheap, but you won't have to buy it again.

Welcome!!! Now begins the nightmares, money shortages, anxiety, credit card statements you don't want to see, WIFE issues etc etc. But oh God the fun and happiness in some excellent steel. Just buy 2 of everything!!!

Welcome to the trough, Arizonian:thumbup::cool:

The big plus I find in this place is that if you save, bide your time, and then just accept the initial pain of purchase as being unavoidable, you can get the perfect knife from here. The pain ebbs and then leaves the moment you realise that the perfect knife that you get will outlast YOU, and become a well used heirloom :)

Or you could become like a lot of members here and start looking for ways to do the pokemon thing - ("Gotta catch em all!") - without the wife getting too suspicious. :(

Oh, and the Swamprat RatManDu, while not infi steel, is 1) a bargain, and 2) damn near as tough as infi. I don't have a lot of experience in beating the tar out of knives yet, but others here have - I'm sure they'll be able to back me up :)

welcome. i'd have no problem recommending a swamprat or scrapyard since they're slightly cheaper and will probably hold up near as well as a busse would. what kind of use are you going to be putting it though? i unfortunately don't get to use my knives at all in the AF right now, but i've got a desk job

Thanks for the warm welcome/warning! It seems you all know the addiction and have accepted it, honestly I don't think I would mind finding a focus - although my wallet and my better half may disagree...

I have been looking at the RatManDu for my first, and many here are recommending it. Uses will honestly probably be minor, with the hopes of getting a small EDC (Game Warden?) for everday tasks, and then a big ol bastard for the occasional outdoors excursion (and a potential Zombie invasion).

I am also in the USAF, and will have no need for a blade like these, but having something of quality that you know will not fail if the need ever reared it's head...

It's comforting.

Welcome to the madness. I too am new here. I had trolled around for several years before ever signing up or making a post. I got my first piece of INFI about 3 weeks ago. Now I am on here all the time and trying to figure out how to get more INFI on a tight budget:)
