Just ordered my first Busse last night (TGLB tanker gray coating with black and red g10) have always admired busses and the hell they stand up to from users here. So I have gathered that Garth does the custom work, will he work on busse? Say do a competition finish? Also can you have an out of production model made in the custom shop or does it have to be an idea out of your head? Thanks guys

ETA one more question, how long does Busse typically run a model? And how often do they introduce new models?

Welcome to our little corner of BF!
The Competition Finish has been discontinued except for limited offerings at shows and forum specials called Gaanzas. They do popup in the Exchange quite a bit.
To find out what Garth can make for you, email him at garth@bussecombat.com or call the Busse Shop:
Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST. (419) 923-6471

I don't think Comp can be done retrospectively and as noted it was mostly discontinued a little ago :(

The CS can make up older models for you *IF* a blank is available, Garth is the man to answer this question. I don't believe that do must custom grinding (that is your design) as there is plenty of work in their own designs. But I have heard that $100 per inch is the rate (that is not blade length but overall).

As noted though, Garth or one of the crew are the best people to answer :) I know I pester him enough :p

You won't find a better answer than this, welcome aboard you are going to love this place.;)

You can always strip the coating off yourself and basicly have comp finish. And welcome to the fun! 1 Busse leads to more! You've been warned....lol.

Yep, what the smiley face dude sAid. Comp finish is the opposite of custom, as it is the lack of finish grinding... But, if you had a custom piece made, they might do that for you...ask the man..Garth

For every Busse newbie, pray be told that its very bad for the wallet...
I found that out a year ago and the most recent ganzaa had me bled out badly... Its a good thing though cos i had many scores...

I'm also planning on the TGLB.
Don't like coatings for food prep.
Which one is the easiest to remove?
I get ceracote off if I have too but why not make it a bit easier?
:-)
Thank you.

I said when I bought my al Mar sere operator that was the most I would ever spend on a blade. The TGLB was double and my first, and I am saving to pick up a AK-47. I'm still learning the rest of the models, it also seems as if you start with Busse it would be hard to go down to SW or Scrapyard although I do like a couple of swamp rats offerings

nemesis,

Welcome to Busse knives!

You can send a coated knife back to Busse and have either a satin or double cut (bead blast) finish applied for additional cost.

There seems to be no set time period that a new model is available from the factory, and no definite frequency of new model introductions.

Scrap Yard and Swamp Rat also make good knives; the biggest difference between them and Busse is the steel. Here is a link that discusses both SR-101 and INFI: http://www.scrapyardknives.com/about-our-various-steels/
There have been some models of SY knives that use INFI, although they generally use SR-101. Early SY knives were made of SR-77 steel. SR-101 is a good steel, but I prefer the better rust resistance of INFI. I own knives from Busse, SR and SY.

I too, own knives from all three. Worthy knives all...... Saving up for a AK?...... You truly are doomed. You'll love the bloody thing:thumbup:

You are just better off sending your credit card in to Lexi and have her max it out once a month, saves doing it bit by bit and is frankly less nerve racking.... ;) I just read what I typed above and vow to not try typing and posting without a proof read... ;)

That's an option haha. Thing is the TGLB is the only one in there current line up that I want so I'm Waiting on what comes next and will be searching and saving for some of the older models that are out of production like a hell razor, AK-47, and find out if they ever made a bowie with a traditional style blade, like a cold steel Laredo shape with g10 and infi
