Hey there, so I'm thinking about getting my first Busse... I've got a Ratmandu, which was one of the first knives I bought as I delved into what is now an addiction, and I love it.

I've been obsessing over getting my first Busse for a few weeks now, and in my picture searching I come across a finish that I don't see advertised on the Busse website It's got a sandy looking blade, in my google-ing I've found it's called Desert Sand. I LOVE the looks of it. My questions are: Does this add value to one of Busee's knives? Is this finish hard to come by? I've read it is a special edition offered on some older models... How much more should I expect to pay for this kind of blade finish?

Thanks a ton folks!

Desert sand coating is not that old. It's rather new and only a small number of knifes had this coating, usually at blade shows. Chances that you will be able to get a knife with this coating from regular production run offering are quite low. I believe there is no extra $$$ value in this coating and it is priced like any other coating. It looks really nice on the pictures especially with black G10 handles.

It is older and no longer available. I really like it. It's extra tough and rough -- it was literally sandy feeling.

ETA I'm thinking the old desert tan. The new one has only been at shows, never a regular offering.

Hey bud, you have good taste, that sand stuff rocks. No powder coating cost anymore than another. Scales sometimes, but typically on older models. As for it being hard to come by, yes and no. Its not one of the coatings the site typically offers on models so your best bet is to find it at shows like Knob and Blade. If ever you got a different colored busse, and wanted it changed to sand, all you would have to do is send it to busse and Im pretty sure they will do it for apx $40. I had them do it on a CGFBM last year and it turned out beautiful. (ssen on far left)

personally I wouldn't pay extra for a coating that I am going to beat off the blade. What are you looking at getting?

Not sure what model I want, or if I'm going to beat it up... I might beat my rats but collect Busse? I don't know  I think a chopper would be fun. I also like the size of my Ratmandu, and the current offering (Boss Jack I believe) looks pretty sweet as well.... oh the choices.

well then I would hold because it looks like Jerry is getting ready to release a new chopper LBNMSHBM, and to get a cg version at factory costs would be the way to go imo-

I love the Desert Sand coating - its sharp, classy looking and one of a kind - it literally looks like faux sandstone with little pebbles!

I used my Desert Warfare BWM as my wedding cake knife... or should I call it Dessert Warfare :D :D :D

Glad to know I am not the only one on here that hasn't even touched a Busse Combat blade. One day when I am not a broke teen lol.
