Hey guys (Hogs)!

I've been lurking and reading about Busse for a little while now and I'm not exactly sure how the order process works. I went to the website and I see the knives that can be ordered through Busse, but I wanted to know if there are any knives that are forum ordered only. Similar to what Fiddleback Forge does where they offer the Fiddleback Friday (shark tank style). I see lots of people talking about the basic 8 and I didn't see it on the Busse website (maybe I'm looking in the wrong area.)

1) Will you guys give me a little insight on how the knives come up for sale or if there's a waiting list I can sign up for.

2) What steel is most similar to INFI? I'm guessing 3V or another hard use tool steel.

3) Does Busse make the steel themselves or do they outsource to someone like Carpenter and then Busse has exclusive rights to the steel?

Anyway, love the knives from what I see/read and would love to pick one up.

Thanks in advance

For the most part, what is on the site is ready to buy and you can order and get it today. There are a lot of individual sellers who will sell specific blades/handle types etc that they purchased either from the site when it was available (their models vary but they have had the current models on the site for a while and once it is on the site, it isn't generally open for purchase anytime) OR you can buy older models not open for purchase right now during one of the specials that they run a couple of times a year.

I'll admit it, I first looked into Busse when I read over on Zombie Squad's forum 'Like Darryl would be able to find a $XXX knife' and it started the addiction as soon as I found out what Busse was, I wanted more.

TGLB ==> SHABM ==> SOB==> TG ==> Mean Street

If you're a camper, get a TGLB for heavier work or an SOB for common camp work. As soon as you hold it, you'll want to use it, as soon as you use it, you'll want to get a decent sheath for it, and then another from the site (plus sheath) and start finding out all the models and maybe buy one during a Ganzaa or off the forum. If you're a blade guy or just want a great tool that will last you a lifetime that you'll pass onto your kid/nephew/niece/whichever, this is it.

And if on the small chance that it isn't, you can sell it on this forum basically at cost.

Without answering the bulk of your questions, I can say that all of the Bussekins I have purchased in the past 18 months have either come from Blade Forums Exchange, or the other main internet auction site. Have yet to order one directly from Busse/Swamp Rat/Scrapyard. Enjoy the hunt...;-)

Welcome to our little corner of BF!

1 - The knives listed on the site are currently the only ones available for you to order direct from Busse. Expect a lead time of 4 -14 weeks, longer around the big shows. There are specials called "Gaanzaa's" that are only posted in the Busse Forums. They're usually one day events and you have to be a BF member (of any level), and wait for a "Go" signal to send in your email to place your order. The B-8's were part of the last Gaanzaa (you missed it by a month or so). You can also watch the Busse Sales forum in the Exchange here on BF. Lots go goodies pop up there, especially after the big shows (Knob Creek, and Blade). You can also contact Garth or Lexi at Busse if you know exactly what you want and see if the Custom Shop can make it for you.

2 - There is nothing quite like INFI. It has a really fantastic way of just rolling when you beat it hard when it should really, chip. A HOG will explain in detail I'm sure. :D

3 - As far as I know INFI and SR-101 are made exclusively to Jerry's specs for Busse, they don't make it at the shop.

Thank you all. Sounds like I have some hunting to do.

INFI is made for Busses exclusively, however SR-101 is 52100 (ball bearing steel) with Jerry's secret heat treatment.

I got hooked two months ago after getting my first BUSSE, TGLB, now all I want is more. You've done right by looking in this direction. All the old Hogs know what you want to know......I'm a lil' pig.....all I can say is start saving money....you're gunna need it.

I want to thank you as I am also new to Busse and you clarified a lot.

The metallurgy of INFI was posted many years ago (sorry, no link). Some folks back then were claiming it was simply A8, but the posted analysis refuted that and showed that INFI was/is unique. The supplier has not been disclosed.

The availibility of Busse Combat knives has never been better than right now. Multiple models can be ordered, and the wait time is not too bad. What makes it seem daunting to newbies is the plethora of models and variants already out there. Busse has used a variety of distribution models. Some were only sold through the (now defunct) Busse Company Store. Some were only sold at shows. Some were forum exclusive offerings ( called ExtravaGanzaaaas in the Busseverse).

Do your homework, study the stickies, google Busse Collector and Bad Mojo Busse for some background, and then ask questions here, tell us what you want to do with the knife, and we can help with models. The vast majority of knives can only be had on the resale market, but we can help you avoid spending too much on eBay or with certain dealers/forums.

Good Luck!
