First let me say I am new to busses so please be gentle. I am interested in buying my first busse and would like some of yalls opinions. My first newbie question is how do you pronounce the name? I have heard people say busse like a school bus or say it like buse, even busey like gary busey, so what is correct. My next question is the infi steel, and all the hype I have read about. If some one could give me the layman’s version I would appreciate it. Finally is cutting ability. I think I would like to start of with a game warden, and I am interested in it for edc. My current edc setup is a large sebenza and an alox SAK. I absolutely love my sebbie but am intrigued by the idea of a small fixed blade carry knife, but it needs to be super sharp and able to slice well as that is what most of my daily tasks involve. I would also be interested in what yall think of the satin finished ones compared to the crinkled black and tan versions. Any input at all would be greatly appreciated as I have never even held a busse. Thanks a bunch.

Welcome to Bladeforums !!! I have 2 game wardens, 1 meaner, and 1 active duty. They are all excellent choices for edc. I really like the game warden for every day use the most, it is a great slicer and tough as a tank. Another thing about it is the size, where I live no one seems to be worried about it because it is so small. Any of these three fit my hand great and also look very nice. You just need to dive in and let the addiction begin.

Wilkommen. What type of slicing do you envision? The only reason I ask is because the Mini Sus Scrofa will be shipping shortly and you can still order one directly from Busse. If you need a pointy blade, this won't be ideal, and you should look for either a Game Warden or Meaner Street from Skunk at the Company Store.

As far as blade finishes, I vote for either satin or DCBB over the coatings. The only coated blades I own are a Natural Outlaw (which I stripped) and a Ruck.

guys!! he clearly is not asking for just anyone's opinions here.

we should wait for YALL to show up to address these issues.

:D

Don't worry, Shooter, some of us know exactly what you mean. I prefer yall to "youz guys" anyway.

Welcome Shooter!

If a GW is what you want and you want it for mostly slicing, a satin .140 sounds like the ticket. Satin .140 will slice the best.

They were the Orange, Black Tie, Snake LE, SMOG, Red, and Green Linen.
Orange should be pretty easy to find and the GL the most difficult. Dought you will see the last two come up on exchange.

If you want one just post that your looking for one in the "wanted to buy section"

They are really great utility knives, and have great designs.

1-It is indeed pronounced (bus-ee)
2-INFI (in-fee) really is that tough

In my own experience I would compare it to A-2 but with much better resistance to rust.

Infi, the short version: It's not indestructible, but you can generally treat it as such. I've only heard of 3 Busse Basic's that broke, (these were M-infi, a less expensive alloy that was very similar to infi) one was done in after a year of being abused and finally cracked in half after a solid hit with a framing hammer into a tree, another was OwenM's Basic 5, which broke after severe prying at the non-factory serrations that were ground in. The last one was a Basic 9 that was intentionally broken during a head to head test with a CS Trailmaster. http://www.oz.net/~malinski/Turber_test/ Be advised that sticking a cheater bar on the end of a game warden and attempting to pry apart a tank will probably bend the tip, I have doubts that it would actually break. You can treat it as a stainless steel, it's proven far more stain resistant in my use than ats-34 or s-30v. It takes an fine edge easily, and holds it well, though it's not the most wear resistant in the world. Jerry once described it as a steel with the best set of compromises for a knife he could find.

Welcome to the club!

I alternate a Busse fixed blade and a Sebenza for EDC. You may have to thin the factory edge down on the Busse to get it scary sharp, but once you do it'll hold that edge really well. I prefer the fixed blade, but carry the folder when i have to "tuck" in the shirt...
