Hello, I have recently purchased my first Busse, The Bush Whacker Mistress, BWM. Tanker Gray with black canvas scales. I am excited to see what all the hullabaloo is all about. I hear incredible things and can't wait to test my new knife out when it comes. I have a few questions, however. What should I expect in terms of this knife? I own several HI kukris and a few SOG fixed blades, comparisons would be great! Another thing is the sheath situation. I want a kydex sheath without having to send my knife off to someone, so on the Busse sight there are several manufacturers, will they be getting knives to use as production models? I'm a novice to the Busse process, so any help would be greatly appreciate.

Thanks

Sawyer

It's not just another fixed blade--it's a Busse. There will be a bunch of sheaths for sale once it hits. There are several active kydex sheath makers here on this forum. Okuden, Buy Brown and Mashed Cat are all pro. There are others too.

One thing is for sure: you will not be disappointed with a Busse knife. Most sheath makers buy the knife to make sheaths once the knife is released. There will be threads advertising kydex sheaths for sale in the weeks after the knives are shipped. Oh yeah, welcome to the Busse world. If I were you, I'd tread lightly. The INFI bug is out to get you...:D.

Once the first run gets delivered to people, a bunch of sheath makers will start making them and put their work up on this site over at the exchange.

The Busse experience results from the nexus of the unique blade stock, the feel, the look, the marketing, the CS and the quasi-familial fraternity of those who have been infected. I tried to resist for the longest time, but it was futile. :)

You can chop just fine with a BK9 or whatever, but its just not the same.

I just bought my first 2, a Howlin' Rat which is the one I'll probably use the most and a Chopweiler which I'm not sure what to do with yet but I will be watchin' the forum for more info, but the Howlin' Rat's been around a while, who's got sheaths fer 'em ready now?

Yes you can get kydex from a few makers that will have a pattern.

IMO for the best fit it's usually best to send the knife in. The ones I have got that were already made have not fit well. Any knife I have sent off for kydex has came back with a perfect fit. I have talked to a few that got a good fit without sending knife in.

The Busse blades are awesome man. You'll put all your other knives away and only use the Busse. I guarantee it.

Hmmm... a Busse you say eh? I was thinking about getting something from that brand, let me know how you like it. I should just take the plunge and get one to see what they are all about...

Welcome to our madness. :D:thumbup:

There are several HI fans here who can comment on comparisons. Certainly HI are known to be tough choppers, but INFI will hold an edge better.

Compared to SOG, INFI is a much better steel.

Leather or kydex? Several makers have extensive collections of knives and/or patterns

excellent blades, as for who has sheaths now, probably no one or at least not many. There are however quite a few sheath makers that have those blades in stock, are you looking for leather or kydex?

Leather would look better but for the smaller blade on the Howlin' Rat I think the Kydex would be more functional, so any Kydex makers would be appreciated, anyone can PM or Email me the info if it's not allowed here.

Thanks for all the enthusiastic replies! I am looking for a kydex sheath, drop leg style. It is far less traditional but much better suited to my uses which are a hard use chopper to accompany me on hiking/camping trips, and the leather would become problematic.
Thanks again,

Sawyer
