Ok stay away from Cutlery Corner and cheap knives in general. I get that. Are Case knives a good place to start my collecting? Are they considered high quality (not cheap)? I can buy many Case pocket knives on Amazon for under $50. I thought Schrade were good knives but the prices for them are pretty cheap too. Are they in fact cheap (low quality)? If Case is a good bench mark knife what are some other comparable brands for me to look at?

If you like Case knives, and I do think they are good knives, you should check out the Traditional Folders forum here on BF. You'll see tons of awesome photos of traditional folders. You can really go nuts collecting all the different brands and types of traditional knives!

Sample some budget knives from various reputable companies, case, spyderco, kershaw... Find what you like and start there. If you like case knives then yes go ahead, many people collect them. The fun is in the hunt not necessarily the increase in value. It took me almost a year to track down every variant of the kershaw skyline.

If you want to collect knives, I'd collect the kinds of knives you like. I make the same recommendation with firearms. You mentioned Case. Lots of collectors. The old Schrades are collectable. These were made by Scharade before they went out of business. The current Schrade knives are made in China and the name is owned I believe by United Cutlery. As far as I know, look for USA on the blades to distinguish the old from the new.

The value should be a secondary issue at best. You do it because you like them. If it's money, stick with stocks and bonds.

Case knives are great quality, I can vouch for that. Tons of variety too. The Schrade knives now a days (the traditionals at least) are Chinese made and i'd go the the Exchange here in the forums to look for a USA made one.
Also, refrain from mentioning the "A" website when you say you huy knives there. Theyre not a BFC dealer.

You are showing a predilection for traditionals aka old-timey knives. At least you have a general area of interest. I suggest starting a similar post on the traditional knife forum. They have many decades of information and advice, advice that I found very helpful. Look at Queen Cutlery and GEC as well.

Easy now... We'll start him off small. Case for now. :)

So you like the more traditional knives?
Case is a very good brand to go with. They make excellent knives and price them well.
Price isn't exactly what I use to determine a knife as "Cheap".
"Cheap" to me consists of cheaply made knives with junk materials and poor quality.

Rough Rider and even Kissing Crane are very good bargain traditional knives. Case would likely be your next step up. Then GEC, Queen, etc. Then you go a little higher, and then get into the custom ones.

If ya really wanna get into traditional knives, summers here, there's no better way to get educated on Traditional's than to hit the flea markets and yard sales.

Most traditional knives I've bought were bought for under $10 and I'm pretty picky big I learned a lot because I constantly had other knives to compare to. When ya can do a side by side comparison the difference between cheap and quality becomes immediately evident.
