Hello everyone.

I am new to this forum and collecting, I actually found this forum trying to learn to do a better job of sharpening my knives.

Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm a Welding and Fabrication Manager in a Patternshop in Iowa. I'm a avid gun collector and reloader, seems knives and guns always go together.

Anyway right now I kinda keep a limit to knives that I EDC at work to $100 or less, always rinsing them out with wd40 to get grinding dust and such out of them.

Right now this is the few I have.

Buck 119
Buck 110
Crkt M16-14SFG
Kershaw Leek
Kershaw Cryo
SOG Twitch II
Camillus EDC
Willumsen Responder

All fairly cheap knives and a couple really cheap ones!
Would like to step up to some nicer ones, really like the two Kershaws that I have and anything with all metal handles.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hello and welcome.

For someone looking to make a jump into nicer EDC folders around $100, I think a Spyderco Delica and the Benchmade Mini Griptilian should be automatic considerations.

Or you might even consider the Spyderco Manix 2 at $79 is a heckuva good deal.

Ordering online is hard for me without first holding the knife.

I have a Scheels locally that carries Benchmade Kershaw CRKT and a few others.

Where could I find Spyderco to hold one. Who sells them?

Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas, Gander Mountain all sell Spydercos as far as I know.

Or local knife shops?

Never have. Either have SS or Aluminum handles?

The blur has aluminum handles, they come with 14c28n as a base steel, but can be had in different colors and steels such as elmax and s30v to name a few, I loved my blur but passed it on due to my fondness of flippers. Now the camber is readily available and is essentially a blur with a flipper, comes with s30v as a base steel.

for folders.... Fox knives are very underrated and make a fine product with great materials at an even greater price.

Spyderco Matriarch 2 is one of my favorite spydies. The gayle bradley, is also another incredible folder.

If you want benchmades... PROWL the exchange. You can get BMs between 75-150 in good condition. Their MAP makes buying new difficult when you can get them used at a better deal.

And then theres Zero Tolerance...

If you want a fixed blade... TOPS KNIVES ALL DAY :)

welcome, rick... since I have a severely limited selection of local knife shops, I don't normally get to try out a blade before taking a chance on it. being a member of BF definitely helped me make more informed decisions through finding tons of information and good advice. in addition, the exchange here allowed me to find items second hand (a lot of lnib) that I could try and if I didn't like, resell it with minimal cost associated.

my point is- don't be afraid to get something you're interested in (even if you cant try it ahead of time) because you can always sell or trade it if it isn't right for you... and the more you read on here, the more you'll figure out about what will be right for you ahead of any purchases- second hand or otherwise. good luck!

oh and right now you're asking about dollar figures and specific brands... soon you'll be asking about steel type and heat treating :-)

A lot of your knives seem a bit light for use in your job. I have a couple of Manix 2's that I use for dirty work around my house. They are relatively heavy but very solid-feeling knives. The G10 Manix 2 is somewhat low priced for what you get. Even though the G10 Manix 2 comes with good blade steel, the S110V version has very good blade steel. It is a much lighter knife but the handles have proven to be pretty rugged. The S110V version would be a little over $100.

The Spyderco Bradley folder is also a tough knife and comes with very good blade steel. It can be found for a little over $100.

There are lots of other Spyderco models to consider- Delica, Endura, Stretch, Native, Tenacious, all for under $100.

ZT makes a lot of good knives but they will be over $100. The Kershaw Cryo II might be a good model for you, similar to their ZT models but for well under $100.

Benchmade makes the Griptilian and mini-Griptilian that I believe are also in your price range.

You can't go wrong with any of the knives that I've mentioned.
