Hi everyone, I have been lurking for the past 3 weeks and trying to learn enough to feel comfortable with even saying hello. I am thrilled to find such a plethera of knowledge on the subject of knife making. I have been a knife nut since I was 4 years old. My grandfather taught me how to whittle and sharpen knives on a wet stone. I never really started to try to produce knives until I was on long deployments on U.S.N. ships in my early 20's. A couple of wives and careers later, I have the bug again. I have very little technical knowledge of the skill, but I know I am the most at peace when I am grinding, sanding, and sanding a piece of steel. Please have patience with my questions, as I may have many.

Well, I'll be the first to say welcome aboard.
For your second post if I were you I'd say hello over on the Shop Talk Forum. If you're going to be a maker that's where most of your questions will get answers. It's also a great place to lurk and learn.
But, wherever you decide to post make yourself comfortable, take your shoes off, and sit a spell. There are plenty of people willing to help you out.

Welcome aboard,Gouge.I think you will enjoy this and learn alot.I know I have. For more info check out the archives section.Lots of reading but well worth it.Keep your blades shiney and brite, Dave.

Hi Gouge! I'm going to move this thread to the shop talk forum And leave it open here. Two, two, two posts in One!

Take care!! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!
