Well, i've been using electric or cheap cartridge blades for years, and several friends have been lauding DE razors, and I finally took the plunge.

Picked up a Merkur 34C and a Tweezerman brush, along with a sample pack of blades. only used it 4 times so far, but slowly getting down the right angle (particularly under my chin) and whisker reduction, rather than a clean shave in one pass. Completely fallen in love with DE razors, a complete convert here.

Sounds like you're off to a good start. What will you do with the $400 or so per year that you will save vs. cartridges and cans?

I've been doing DE for 4 years and it's fantastic. Try feather blades. I can do hair removal in one pass with a fresh blade.

Are you using soaps or shaving creams for lather?

That is half the fun of wet shaving: sampling different products and finding out what you like best.

w00t! :D Another convert! You're going to love the journey of personal discovery that is wet shaving. After a while, you will know your own face and beard like you never knew them before, as you slowly learn which spots of your face are sensitive, which need an extra pass, etc.

Man, thats the truth! There is a big difference in strong side and weak side. For me I think it's not much more than getting the razor at the correct angle inorder to make the cut on wiskers. The result is a close shave or a semi-missed spot that needs going back over and its always the same spot. DM

Buy more razors?

(thats what I did....then I found straights an my budget went down the drain)

Saving money - too funny! I started with 1 razor, 10 blades, VDH brush & soap. Now I can only display a little over half of my wares on 3 shelves!

It's a great way to have fun shaving for sure. Glad you tried it and are liking it.

I am fortunate to have started with one razor, one brush, and one cake of soap. I was subsequently given two more razors one of which I have given away. Today, I use my one razor and my one brush and only one soap at a time. It can be done.

I have one razor and one brush. Stay off of badgerandblade forums or you'll blow way more money there too.

This is very true

Stay away for straightrazorplace too, same thing will happen

I have one razor and one brush.

Shudder at the thought.

I HAD one razor and one brush. It didn't take me long to yearn for more hardware.

I started DE shaving in the late 80s with an adjustable slim that I found in my mother's house. Lost it years back when I moved away from home......and had to have a replacement. It fits in well with the two Edwin Jaggers and other vintage Gillettes.

Just shaved with it, as a matter of fact. Gillette slim set on 4, Feather blade, Bigelow cream, witch hazel and Aqua Velva.

The whiskers are a whole lot tougher than they were in the 80s but the technique is tons better.

I am a new convert to DE shaving also. With help from these great forumites here I have gotten off to a great start. It's nice. I only have 2 brushes, one razor, and three soaps. I like it simple. I will still continue to try new products, but I am a one razor kinda guy.

I switched to DE just over a year ago and will never be a slave to the Fusion, Mach 3 or whatever is next from Gillette again. I just couldn't see spending $20 for 4 blades any longer. I shave my head too, so the blades even have a shorter life span than for other guys.

Just take your time and remember you don't have to get smooth in one pass. Enjoy, it's always a coveted time in the morning for me when I shave. No one is usually awake yet in my house and I have that 20 min or so to me and my blade.
