Just received a New Spyderco camo para military 2 , blk plain edge from "Sooner State knives. This thing is the stiffs Spyderco knife I have ever seen to open or close (gets really stiff just before it locks open) Also the blade has wiggle in it when your opening or closing the blade. You can stop at any point opening or closing and wiggle the blade back and forth (no side to side play) I think I should send it back for an exchange , what would you guys do . Haven't had a Spyderco knife in a while but I don't remember ever having one that had back and forth wiggle or being hard to open or close ? REALLY SAD...............

Welcome. Just send it back for an exchange.

I've 2 of them and they are smooth as silk. You could try some oil on the pivot and maybe tighten the pivot screw.

Mine arrived with unbalanced pivot tension. The left one was so loose I can turn it using a bit with just my fingers. The right one was so tight it wouldn't budge even when I used a L-shaped bit driver. I thought I was going to strip the right pivot screw.

But after adjusting it, it flips smoothly and the blade centering improved, though I still struggle to find the dead-on centering without adding any blade play.

I think I would just send it back to the dealer. If you do decide to adjust the pivot, DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE KNIFE. It voids the warranty. Best to just send it back to the dealer.

What this guy said. Try doing both and if it still isn't functioning right send it back to seller is what i would do.

Send it back to the dealer, I have, let's just say many of them, all are fast, smooth and crisp deployment.

I've had a 3 Para 2s. They were all a little different. 2 had some blade play between fully closed and fully open, but were rock solid when locked open, so to me that didn't matter. My present and newest PM2 is the stiffest of the 3, but for now I'm just flipping it at every excuse and trying to use it a lot, which is not very difficult. A couple of drops of Nano Oil seems to be helping, too. This one is perfectly centered and also very solid at lock up, so I'm hesitating to touch the pivot screws. On my other PMs loosening the pivot, oiling and re-tightening made them open perfectly smoothly and drop closed with no effort at all. I'll probably do that to this one soon, too, if it doesn't improve om it's own.

If you're not happy with it, the sensible thing to do is to return it for exchange or credit. It would be dishonest to send it back if you start tinkering with it, and discover that you can't fix the problems.

Good call, but don't give up on the PM2! Phenomenal design, I'm sure yours was just an anomaly. You could probably ask your dealer to check these things for you on the next one you order to make sure the next one doesn't have any issues.

Hi EverettJohn,

Welcome to our forum. Sorry for your disappointment. Let us know how the new one works out.

Meh, take the money and invest in a Manix 2, an Endura 4, or Gayle Bradley. And order Factory Direct. For all you know the knife was dropped off the UPS truck on the way to your house...:D

Just being sarcastic. The PM2 is a great knife. Well made, fit & finish. Every once in awhile a stiffey slips through. When its new out of the box and does not perform right, always immediately send it back. Hope ypu get a Spyder you can really enjoy. Please post the outcome so we will know.
