Hi! New to the Forum and knife collecting. Just ordered a Spyderco Military and Delica, my first two knife purchases. First watches, then flashlights, now knives. Guess we're genetically wired to hunt for things. Hey, watches were getting kind of expensive.......

Welcome mitchfried! You will like it here! Nice guys and gals! Let us know if there is anything we can help with or if you have any questions! Paul

Welcome aboard, Mitchfried. :) :)

Welcome to the Forums!:)

You made a couple of nice selections for your first knives. There will probably be many more in your future.;)

Welcome aboard. You got two modern day classics with the Military and Delica. Great choices.

Welcome, there's a lot of experience here in collecting and making knives, even a few Mnfgr. reps hang out here.

Look around and enjoy the people, they're mostly all here to help.

Welcome to BFC and to the knife world in general. You made two excellent choices for first knives. The Delica is a great EDC. I hope you enjoy those knives and the countless others to follow.

mitchfried,

Welcome to BladeForums!.:).

You made a very wise choice in the Spyderco Delica and Military models. I carry a stainless plain-edge Delica as one of my EDC's...The other EDC folder I carry is a stainless fully-serrated Spyderco Police model.

Welcome to the forums. Knives, watches, and flashlights...You'll fit right in here.;)

Paul

Thanks for the welcome. I browsed this forum before making my first selections. Did I do right with the plain edges?

I would say the majority here (about 85%) prefer plain edges. Did you get the FRN Delica or the S.S. Delica? Also, did you get the new military with S30V?

Yes, you'll find that when it comes time to re-sharpen, that plain-edge is ALOT easier (and quicker) than serrated-edge. Also, a plain-edge tends to be more useful than serrated, and can make a finer (less ragged) cut.

Welcome aboard. You won't find knives all that cheap to collect either, but thats besides the point. For me I just love shiny, pointy things that go click and snap. Occasionally I try to justify my collecting. But it's just fun. :D

I ordered the FRN Delica and the new military with S30V, based on your informative postings. What are the odds a newbie like myself will injure himself within the first 24 hours, like a flashlight beginner shining a 5 watt Luxeon Star in his eyes? Any band-aid recommendations? :D

Great job, you got the right ones, IMHO. Haha, band aid recommendations? None here, but if you order from NewGraham.com they send a magnetic bandaid holder complete with bandaids! :D

Forget the Bandaids!...Get yourself a tube of Superglue!...Simple Bandaids won't help much with the huge cut that you'll receive from that SHARP Delica if you're not 100% careful.:D

I use the KrazyGlue also. My wife cut herself something terrible last year while whittling with my Robeson ATS-34 wharncliffe whittler. It was a long deep cut along the side of her index finger. There is no way that a Band-Aid would have done it. The Krazy Glue had things sealed up in a jiffy.

The Delica and Military are great choices. I carry a Military every day. My father-in-law carries a Delica every day. Cardboard trembles before us. Hehehehe

You definitely did right going with the plain edged versions. Many of my first knives were serrated or combo edged. I regret all of those purchases. A plain edge is much more versatile, and quite a bit easier to sharpen.
