I have always liked sharp things, and have a nice collection of steel, but never really got into hawks or axes. But i recently decided i would try out a swamp rat kill devil sniper hawk and i just fell in live with it. It is a lot of fun to throw, and chops like a beast.

Well i have never been happy with owning just one of something so i have been looking into other hawks. I do prefer full tang, tactical, and i like the ones without wood handles best.

Now id love an RMJ shrike but they are just so costly. I will be ordering one of storm crows on the next batch though.

But im wondering what other hawks are good buys?

What do you guys think of the Ontario ranger RD hawk 2?

At 100 bucks would you suggest something different? Im looking for something that is NOT a special order, or require a lengthy wait. something for throwing and chopping, but mostly just playing around, i am no longer in the service and have no need to break down walls and cut cars in half, although id love to do it, these will be for fun just tossing around and chopping wood.

When it comes to needing something cut, or firewood processed i have other steel i use thats more practical to me in the situation. My hawks will really just be for goofing off.

So what would you guys suggest at around 100? Whats your opinions on the ontario? I have a few ontarios and i like them, not my most expensive blades but still fully functional and i like the designs of the ranger series. So would that hawk be a waste of money? something better for the price?

Thanks guys for reading and any suggestions you may have :)

The Ontario you pointed out is a very solid hawk. Your Kill Devil is built like an absolute tank and you will be able to do just about anything to it............awesome hawk! CRKT's new line up is an RMJ inspired tomahawk and seem to be very well made. However for your price range, it's going to be hard to beat a VTAC. I own quite a few tomahawks and I believe the VTAC comes pretty close to perfect. It has an extremely well thought out design and made from near indestructible materials.

"VTAC" = LaGana Vietnam Tactical Tomahawk?

and do you mean Kangee T-Hawk from CRKT?

Thanks man for the suggestions i will be looking into these

VTAC Made by the American Tomahawk Co. Some people are not so crazy about these.........others like myself are die hard fans of the VTAC.

You know you want a Shrike. By the time you buy two more look what you have spent. Surely you have some decent blades or "whatnot" that you could part with in the classified section. Add the sales proceeds to the money almost spent on two other hawks. Before you know it you have the one you really want.
The Swamp Rat is a great hawk it will hold you over until you can secure the prize.
That's my 2 cents.

You say exactly what im thinking in the back of my head.... But im so impatient most the time, and I like having a variety. To me 3 real good hawks is better than one great hawk.

I also want a NMFSH, have wanted one for like ever. And I could sell a few blades and get one this week.... But that one knife wouldnt look as good to me as this;

Quality is more important than quantity, but only until you hit a certain level of quality. IMO anyway.

Great review. I used to throw knives(or attempt to). It looks like the hawks the way to go.
Prior to my discovery of Hawks I always carried a decent sized fixed blade on hikes and woods adventures. Now my hawk is my trail companion and the back up is a folder or small fixed blade.
Due to my location my "wilderness area" is a series of trails beyond my backyard the lead to a couple creeks, a powerline, and miles of woods. I try to get out any where from 3 to 6 x a week. Average hike time is 45 min to 3 hours.

Im so jealous right now....
