I just received my first hawk which is a VTAC and I really like it. I am considering a second hawk. I think I am using the correct terminology when I say I am looking for a hammer poke hawk. I have read a lot of good things about the Fort Turner hawks and am looking at the Trapper. I am also considering the H&B Forge small or medium camp axe but they seem a little heavy. I have noticed that some have purchased the Fort Turner Iroquois and had the hammer side added custom. I gather this design was desired because of the flatness to the top of the Iroquois blade. My question is why is that more desireable than a more curved blade like the Camp or Trapper from FT?

RN - Figure just a type-O but that would be a hammer pole. 8*)

My decision for a custom Iroquois with a hammer pole vs a Camp or Trapper hawk was based strictly on blade profile. Nothing else.

blutck.

Blutck, yes that was a typo. Oops. I didn't know if the straight line on the top of the blade served a different purpose than a more curved one. I see where some prefer the straighter one over the more upward curved. I guess I could see that coming into play if you were to use the hawk to thrust at your opponent.

Oh and yea, H&B are thicker and heavier than FT. The FT has a thinner blade and the handles are a bit smaller. Personally I like my FT a bit better than my H&B but it comes down more to preference than quality.
