As the title states, I am new to Hinderers and can not find anything on the topic I want more information on.

Are the "Flippers" assisted opening? If not what mechanism are they utilizing?

I see on the Hinderer website that they produce their own pivot but nothing is stated about the flipper...I am assuming that they are not assisted.

Thanks

Hinderers are non assisted knives. They use teflon washers at the pivot. Even still, they are ridiculously smooth.

They are assisted by this....

Not exactly.

Yep, have flipped them all (each size, that is...Productions and Customs in each size as well) and the larger, heavier bladed 24 flips "easier" "better" "you get the idea" than the smaller 18s, especially the 3". None are slouches, but the 24 wins.

I found that it depends on the individual knife and how well its tweaked, that's a combination of pivot and also the top standoff screw and of course the detent, which can be different on some knives.

My 3" slicer is a great flipper even better than my XM-24, I received a new Gen.4 3.5" custom yesterday that got tweaked by the dealer, who is a big Hinderer collector, this 3.5" custom flips better than all the other XM's I had, and I had quite a few in the past.

But Need2Know is right in general the heavier XM-24 opens almost by itself from the weight of the blade once its set in motion, but if you would hold the knife tip up the weight will also be harder to overcome..;)

You can tweak most any XM to a "sweet spot". And they come from the Ranch is very fine running condition. Not a complaint in the world.

But, in my experience, if you pick up any of the flipper XMs and give them a go, the 24 has always opened a tad easier than the others. I am speaking to very slight differences, they all flip incrediably well. If they ever don't, it needs cleaning, a very slight adjustment or some lubrication.

The length of the flipper (lever) and the heavier/longer blade naturally makes the larger knife easier than the smaller knife (all else being equal).

It's hard to beat a small, light blade when it comes to quick opening.
I find a heavier blade is slower and a little more awkward because of the extra forces while it pivots and pushes the handle around.

I will say a heavier blade is more dependable (for lockup) when flipping, but not as fun, for me.

Of course, this is just my preference... :)

As the Math clearly indicates - Flippers are far superior in the length and mass indicated by the value "i"
Duh.

ill agree that it depends on the differances in each knife but out of the hinderers that i have had. about 9, the smaller ones did better. i did however have a 3.5 slicer that was awesome but it moved to a new home and i kick myself everyday about it.
