Like the title says, I am knew to this knife making skill. I have recently got some minor tools for forging knives like hammers, anvil, made a file jig and various other power and hand tools I have collected over the years and was given a coal forge by a buddy who is a farrier. Recently a coworker found out I was getting into making knives and is going to give me some coil springs he has collected. The thing about these springs is they are not from the auto industry but from the train industry. I work for a commuter rail and I know these springs are larger and harder steels than normal springs. Has anyone ever used these type of springs to make knives and has an idea what type of steel they are. Thanks.
