Hello everybody.i need some help on how to keep a new Benchmade Foray 698 in good shape, what sharpening system to use as the knife has a slight recurve to the blade.I ordered a Spyderco sharpener then realised the blade was cpm-20cv, knife is new not used yet.Any help and suggestions would be gratefully received.

Possibly a lot to get into there.
At the top of the forum is a sticky post about sharpening that is worth reading.

Now I assume you bought the Spyderco Sharpmaker? With 20CV you're going to want some diamond stones if you are doing more than maintaining the edge.
Many people have also said that the Sharpmaker is better at keeping a knife sharp than making a dull knife sharp, so don't let it get too dull.
Recurves are nobody's favorite to sharpen, but you an use the corner of those triangle rods on the curve, rather than the flat.

If you’ve never sharpened before you’re in for a world of pain trying to learn on a recurved blade. I wouldn’t recommend it at all and would start with whatever knives are in your kitchen. Definitely do some research on the subject before just diving in, loads of great references to get you going in this sub forum. Key is how to raise and remove a burr

I watched a video on YouTube regarding recurved blade sharpening just yesterday. Unfortunately I can't remember the details, hang on got it🤣
The Apostle P Spyderco Sharpmaker Hints: Recurved and Blade Tips!
Might help out somewhat HOWEVER, if these guys on here say recurves are difficult I'd be a little more than tempted to listen- HARD!
Good Luck and may your blade always be sharp. 🗡️

It’s not that recurves are so difficult, they just don’t fit on a flat stone very well. The other issue is the steel, which wants diamond abrasives. Get a diamond rod or some other curved shape for the concave segment.

Craig is right though, your learning curve will be steeper facing more issues. Start on a simpler knife if you’re the type who gets frustrated by setbacks.
