Hello,
I would like some information on knifemaking. What is the best book for beginners, Also Im thinking of purchasing a sander grinder,Does anyone have any suggestions for a beginner.
Thanks

Hello! Welcome to the forums. I'm by no means an old pro, but my suggestion would be to start by putting together some kits. This way you can get a feel for what's involved without spendin lots of money on tools. Then if you really like it and want to take the plunge, get the best grinder you can afford. Try the search feature for lots of info on grinders and books. Be careful, it's addicting!

I'm still a beginner, but I have REALLY enjoyed the book "Knifemaking : A Complete Guide to Crafting Knives, Handles & Sheaths" by Bo Bergman. Excellent book, especially for the $18 it cost me. This guy is Finnish and makes Scandinavian knives. He buys the blades and does the handles and sheaths. I think that's probably the easiest way to get started. If you need blades you can check at www.ragweeforge.com, especially for Scandinavian style blades. Most of the other knifemaking supply places carry blade blanks and folder kits.

Oh, as far as sander/grinders, I do pretty well with a dremel tool and a hand drill with one of those sander roll things. Like I said before, though, I haven't made any blades yet...

The Loveless and Barney book is good.
So is Boye's "You can do it!Step by step guide to knifemaking".
My personal favorite is the Hrisoulas Book, "The Complete Bladesmith". His other books are good as well.

Any or all of these are available from a number of the knife supply places.
