Hi.
I just arrived to the "world" of knifes this a.m., when looking for a small knife I was offered this Spyderco "Q" model (the one with the SPIDER) NIB for $73. Not knowing about knifes, and not wanting to be ripped, I searched the web and found this forum.
My questions:
- Is the one with the spider the cheapest of the "Q" models? Is $73 a good deal - what is the approx current price?
- Finally, I was also offered NIB one "Snap It" and one "Moky" models. What are reasonable prices for these models?

Appreciate your good help and comments.
Regards,
Ignacio

Thats a fair deal.I picked up a couplr for 40 to 50 but thats a thing of the past. They have been going on Ebay for well over that price lately.
Another one to look at in about the same size range is the Carbon Fiber Dragon fly and Carbon Fiber Delica. They are a built better for everday use and can be had on ebay for about 70.00

Why would anyone want a Q Spydie? I bought one, but it was one of Spyderco's very few bad designs and it now rests in the "Lockbox of Unused Knives" as a memorial to my folly.

Thats why I said something about the Delica ond Dragonfly being better for use.The Q is really more of a display--collector knife.

Thank you all for the good info.
I am buying this "Q" for investment purposes. Meanwhile keep looking for u812´s suggestions...and any other "Q" that shows the face...if the price is right!!
Best,
Ignacio

I have the American frag pattern Q and it is a really nice little knife. To call it a bad design is going a 'little' far...

How else would you describe a design that seemed to ask to get broken, the clip always catching on things and then breaking out the detentes in which it was held? And that's just for starters.

I've have 3 snap-its, they have been discontinued, but I believe the
price at the time was $40 to $45. You can still get the red handled ones from AG Russell. They do not seem collectible as few like them, so I wouldn't pay too much of a premuim.

Hi Ignacio. Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

The "Q" was a very popular knife for a long time. We made more than 50 different blade designs for a variety of customers as well as Spyderco. We stopped making them several years ago. The knife won awards and is still popular after quite a few years.

As mentioned, engineering was inadequate and reliability problems were greater than we would like. I don't know that I would fault the design as much as I would the engineering and manufacturing. As a design, it was quite successful.

We've had numerous and constant requests to create a new one.

Sal, I apologize if I sounded harsh, but I had really taken to the concept of the Q, so much so that I gave a number of them as gifts, only to have almost every one of them come up with the same sort of problems that I experienced, the clip destroying the detentes into which it was to fit, various other parts being detached accidentally and having to be reattached at awkward moments, that sort of thing. It was a really great concept, but, somehow, it never quite worked out as a practical user knife.

How about makeing a Q return in the form of a smaller R.
A very kind forumite has just sent me a SE R as a gift.I have been trying to get one for a couple years but I ethier just miss getting one or the price is to high.
Thought I was getting one last year but it was a trade with Tremor1127,the guy who was ripping off everyone over on knifeforums.
