Hi everyone,

I'm 27 but this is the first forum I've ever subscribed to. I recently got into learning about different knives, steels, and manufactures. I've had a lot of questions and Google always seems lead me here. Short of the story is I am starting to pick up a bunch of knives in the 20-70 dollar price range. Recently I happend upon a plain edge Tiger stripe blur. I've seen some guys take the blade swap them with different handles. Thought about doing this myself and seemed to find out this is a limited production type item. My question is does the TS blur pose any real collector's value? Or should i simply do as i please? I realize, to most, this isn't a high end knife, but to me it is. Any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Pete

Rip into it! I wouldn't worry about the value at that price range and for what you are doing I don't see it as reducing the knife's resale...

GL with your journey here at BF... your wallet is about to enter the octagon!

Do as you please. It is your knife after all. One of the other members here has put together some pretty awesome FrankenBlurs, most of which are from limited run pieces. See this post for some pics.

Pete,

Congrats on the new, excellent hobby. Blurs are great knives (I have one myself) but are generally pretty common - more of a user's knife than a collector's knife. The tiger stripe edition, in my opinion, is very cool but not necessarily rare or extremely collectable. I'd say use it and get your money's worth, for sure! Swap the blade out if that's what you want to do, and you may end up with something nobody else has ; )

A word to the wise - nothing wrong with your price range, there are some very good knives to be had in that range - but better to buy one $70 knife than two $35 knives (IMO, good knives start at $40 and up).

Pick up a Spyderco Delica4 before you get too far down the road!

Hobbies are all about doing something that makes YOU happy...
Have a good time..
Welcome

Cool, thanks for the support and advice. Value is always in the eye of the buyer, anyway, right? I was thinking about picking up a manix 2 next. The one with the blue translucent scales, and BD-1 steel really caught my eye.

The Tigerstripe Blur is a Cabelas exclusive but not that rare. Do what you want with it and if you need info on other Blurs just ask around there are a bunch of Blur nuts here.

I wouldn't worry about it. Swap it out and be happy! It's a hell of a lot better than wishing you had, and keeping it pristine just to sell it. Down the road you can always swap it back if the TS model is suddenly worth millions...

Welcome to bladeforums! Enjoy your new custom creation. Make it "yours".

Check out the s110v Manix 2. They sell for not to much more then the regular lightweight models but the steel is waaaayyyyyy better

Welcome to the forum!

yeah I saw the manix 2 in s110V at knifecenter. But its on backorder right now. I absolutely would love to get one. I've seen a couple of videos on it's performance and was very impressed. especially, like you said, for the nominal price difference.
