Im new to the "premium" knife scene. I have always owned cheap pocket knives, Vitorianox, Gerber etc. Since I was a kid. Im 37 now and want to get a nice daily carrier knife. I do hunt and fish and do camp so I may get a few more specialized knives in the future. I need help trying to decide what to get. My brother and friend at work swear by Kershaw. I would like to stick to an American knife. I like folders and they have to be under 3.5" to be legal in my state. I feel a 3" would be a great size to have.

I have narrowed my research to 3 knives that really caught my eye.
- Spyderco Native, s30v
- Buck Vantage Force Pro, s30v
- Benchmade Mini Griptillian 556, 154cm
The Cold Steel Amercian Lawman and AK-47 (both aus8) kind of caught my eye too, but not as much as the three listed above.

I am open to suggestions and recommendations in comparisions of the ones I listed. A good durable knife that holds an edge for a long time appeals to me. Any advantages/disadvantages between these?

Thank you

How about a ZT 350 or a Benchmade 940. The 940 has just under a 3.5 inch blade and is slim but has a nice size blade in a compact package. The ZT 350 is well liked by many and very well made. Good Luck! Kevin :D

Wow...you've been a member since 2007 and this is your first time posting! Congrats!

I heartily endorse the Benchmade Mini-Grip. I have one and it is a fantastic knife for the money. I suggest you try the knives out before buying in order to see how they fit ergonomically if possible. The three you listed are all very good knives. Best of luck in your search.

The saber ground Delica 4 is also a great entry level knife whithin your price range and might be worth a look. It's purely just preferance but having used both the Native and Delica I'm kinda partial to the more leaf shaped Delica blade but still the native is a fine choice by all means. Also the Buck Vantages aren't half bad eithet and Buck has awesome S30V that is very nicely heat treated. Then you've got the CS folders and IMO they've got the best lock out of the bunch but with that being said the AUS-8 while seviceable is kinda a let down for a 50 dollar knife but still they are what they are.

I fully endorse the benchmade griptillians. I have a few and they are a great american made knife. Check out the Doug Ritter mini griptillian at Knifeworks.com if you want a little better blade steel(S30V) and a bit of different blade shape and finish. The Axis Lock is a great feature to have for quick depolyment, smooth operation, and tight lockup. Spyderco are great knives but I am not fond of liner locks or back locks. I prefer bolt action style locks like the Axis Lock. Enjoy because any you have listed will be decent.

I have had a mini grip for a few years and consider it a great knife. I have the serrated blade and works good on rope. I also have a cold steel folder but do not think it opens as smooth as the BM.
