ok guys so i am pretty new to knives. I want to get a good sharpener. I have looked at the KME Sharpening System, and the Lansky. any opinions on those? and any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

sharpmaker , I just sold mine, i had the diamond stones and ultrafine stones all the tools to get a razor sharp edge, I have the lansky and hate it so i bought the sharpmaker, I can get a hair whittling edge off the sharpmaker effortlessly , as long as the edge is not chipped, but after i thought i "mastered" the sharpmaker i bought an edge pro and it truly is an awesome piece of sharpening equipment, as far as the lansky i threw it in my junk closet and havent seen it in over a year. I broke my yellow ultra fine stone for the lanksy on purpose just to get the stone out of it, it's great for a car sharpener or for quick free handed touch ups. I'd say sharpmaker or if you want the best of the best go wicked edge or edge pro. the Wicked edge and edge pro are a tad bit pricey though but to me the edges i get are worth every penny.

Don't have the KME, but if I was going to buy an angle guided system, I would seriously look at the KME. Made in the USA, and uses the best stones like the WE and edge pro uses, but at a much better price range. Also their stones are 1 inch wide, which is wider than the Lansky's. I have talked to these people and they are very knowledgeable and eager to help with any questions. Don't think you would go wrong.

Having said this, I personally use the paper wheels for my sharpening, along with a Work Sharp Knife & Tool belt grinder I use for misc, knives and tools.
