New to knives... Need help!

Hello,
This is my first time posting and coincidently will be my first knife purchase. I've become very interested in the Emerson Commander. However after looking around this fourm I've heard of the Super Commander, 2002 Commander, etc. What are these? All I've been able to find out is the Super is a tiny bit bigger (correct?) and no clue on what the 2002 is.

I want a black blade, half serrated model. I would LOVE OD grips if possible.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
 
The 2002 Commander is this years model and has a number of improvements over the previous versions. It is available from a number of online knife stores including one stop knife shop that are related to Bladeforums.

The Super Commander is a larger version of the Commander and is only avaiable from TADGEAR.

So most dealers when they say they have the Commander it is the 2002? Or should I get absolute confirmation first?

Unless a Commander is listed as a 2002 Commander, it is almost certainly NOT a 2002 Commander. AFAIK, 2002 Commanders are pretty hard to find...

AFAIK, 2002 Commanders with green scales are pretty rare. The easist 2002 Commander to find is probably the black handle BTS, which has a black serrated blade.
 
One thing you might want to be aware of is that the finish on the black blades is not exactly scratch proof. I've had my 2002 Commander BT nine days, and the screws and blade look VERY well used.

If you're asking what knife to get, I can't help you. That's kind of like asking a friend which girl you should marry. That's a decision you have to make. Of course, if you're like most of us Knife nuts, you'll wind up with several anyway.

If you're asking how to procure a 2002 Commander BTS, there are a couple of ways.

1. Order one direct from Emerson for $219.95 + shipping. Who knows, they might even have one with green scales.

2. Find a good dealer, arrange for them to alert you when they get a 2002 Commander BTS in stock. You might even find one that will let you pre-order one, with or without a deposit.

I'm not going to recommend a dealer. I've already been "bit" once by somebody in this forum for that.
 
I just picked up a 2002 Commander from BladeArt (great people to deal with). This is my first Emerson, and I am very happy with it. Everything about it is first rate. Tight lock-up, absolutely no blade play, very sharp blade, etc. I think BladeArt might have a few more, but am not sure. This Commander is a great supplement to my Strider GB ;) .
 
Well I found a local dealer that carries Emerson and I'm the proud owner of a 2002 Mini Commander BTS. I'll try this one out and probally later pick up a normal Commander.
