Hello Everyone,

I am new here and forgive me if this is not the correct place to post this, but I need some advice.

If you recognize my username, it is probably because you have seen me on the various watch forums on-line. I am basically the equivalent of your "knife expert", but with wristwatches.

I recently started carrying an EDC knife and would like an upgrade, but do not know where to go from here. It is a Leatherman C33L and so far it has served me well. I have been doing some research on my own and I know I want something with a blade just under 3" and I want a simple lockable blade. I really like the Benchmade Griptillian and Spyderco Delica 4, but not certain if they are "too much" knife for me.

In the mean time, here are my 2 EDC tools:

What say you oh sage knife enthusiasts?

You'll find a lot of great quality knives in Benchmade and Spyderco! The two you mention (Griptilian and Delica) are classics - can't go wrong there. I'm in Gatineau so don't hesitate to shoot me an email to discuss knives or watches. I'm probably more a noob in watches than you are in knives :)

Oh, and welcome!!!

Welcome to the knife world. Sounds like you are like me with multiple expensive hobbies. I got into knives after guns which is another expensive hobby. I like higher end guns and it didn't take long for me to want higher end knives. The knives you mentioned are great knives but I suspect you will enter the semi/custom knives relatively quick. Good luck! I have learned a lot from this forum. I'm probably going to focus on guns for a little since I have my immediate knife needs covered.

Also Lionsteel. The Daghetta or Opera would serve you well and they make excellent knives. Just don't think you'll get off easy with only buying 1. That might hold you for now but if the sickness sets in you're in trouble. Especially since you just joined the biggest group of enablers and pushers I've ever seen. Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Great advice so far... WOW!

That's all the "wifely unit" needs, for me to find another expensive hobby... lol... Cannot be as bad as watches.... can it?

May I add a small twist to my request? I kind of like the carabiner clip that attaches to my belt loop on my Leatherman. Are there good / better knives with this kind of attachment? I could keep it in my pocket, but that is where I keep my money and I do not want it to pop out if I am dragging bills out of my pocket. Is the Buck Flashpoint a decent knife or gimmick?

Thanks again!

If you want something to go with that Ball watch (I wear an EM II), you should consider Chris Reeves Sebenza knives. They set the standard for precision engineered & manufactured folding knives. If you want it for "gentlemanly" carry purposes, the small would probably work better for you.

+1 >> and if you're looking for something that's "not too much knife" - go for the small. It's thin, light and a solid, solid knife.

Cannot be as bad as watches.... can it?

I collect both (same user name on WatchUSeek).... yes, yes it can

CRK would indeed be a good match for the impressive quality of watch you are wearing :)

Spyderco Vallotton is very nice if you don't mind a slightly bigger blade than specified.

Other possibilities:

Spyderco Gayle Bradley
Benchmade Barrage 581
Benchmade Subrosa 790
Kershaw Leek (if you are looking for something smaller... the composite blade version is very nice)
Mcusta 'damascus' folders are very attractive and well made
