New to leather, whatdoyathink...? IWB/EDC sheath

I've been bending kydex for a while and thought I'd try my hand at leather. The SAR3 is just a gorgeous little knife and it just seemed to deserve something a bit more classy than plastic.

One thing for sure, leatherwork takes much more patience and time than kydex. I believe I could have made four or five kydex sheaths for this one. Maybe it's just the learning curve.

Still, the time was worth it to me. I'm loving EDC'ing this blade. It's a gem.

Your computer says "new to leather". The quality of your work says something entirely different. Shame on you for fibbing!

Really nice work.

^^^^^ thanks for the compliment Paul. It means a lot coming from you. Your work is unsurpassed in my opinion.

But a fib? I don't think so... I've been doing kydex for years as a hobby. I've tinkered a bit with leather, made a couple of holsters. But they don't ordinarily come out looking like anything I'd post here or elsewhere... purely utilitarian (ugly but useful). This lil' sheath turned out pretty well so I figured I'd share.

Lurking here on this subforum, I've learned much about leather working. So thanks to all...

My post above was strictly tongue in cheek about the fib, but the quality of your work is unique. It definitely shows elements of your expertise with Kydex, yet accomplished in leather instead. The molding almost looks as if it was vacuum assisted, it is so good. You may have stumbled (on purpose) to a whole new genre.

Yeah when I saw the holster (which I assumed you made as it looks similar in design) I figured you should have titled it "relatively" new to leather. ;):)

It looks very well thought out and very well made. Nice work

Thanks. I used my kydex press (pvc foam between two boards) to aid in the moulding process... In the same way I'd form kydex. It worked a lot better than I expected. The boning was much easier after the lines were pressed into the leather with the press.

Thanks again for the kind words.

One thing for sure, I have a lot of respect for you leather-benders. Considering the work that goes into a nice leather sheath, I think they are probably all under-priced. ;) You guys should charge more! :D

That's a beautiful sheath, and absolutely stunning considering your first (I'll never show a pic of my first attempt.) Great work!

nice iwb knife holster. do you have a picture of it while wearing it?
