I was given this 103. Looks like it's a 1972-1986 vintage from the Buck date code chart. Needs some cleanup, especially the inside of the sheath. How would I go about doing that?

Nice Knife!! The knife you can send to Buck and for the SPA service, $6.95, it'll come back looking like new and sharper than heck....

The sheath you have some dry rot, not too bad, going on you need to get some neatsfoot oil and either soak it and wrap it with paper towels after you pull it out which will soak up the excess oil. Or you can hand rub it in...The leather needs to be conditioned and that oil works the best, some people will disagree, either way after your done conditioning the leather it should look good as new...

My all-time favorite (hence my "handle").
I'm awaiting the return of an older, inverted 2-line one that's out for the spa treatment.

I’d send it in for spa treatment and pay for a new sheath to use. Nice knife.

Your 103 was mfg. from 1972 to early 81. In late 1981 the number of spacers changed. (I'll post a picture of this change in spacers) I would clean that sheath using a tooth brush and saddle soap and dunk it & rinse it in water. Then allow it to dry and rub in bees wax or Kiwi leather conditioning oil. Someone started to thin the convex edge during sharpening. The correct move. You can do it on a stone if you know how. Otherwise send it in. A good find & a top notch skinner. DM
