Found a deal on the Bay. It's a little rougher than I thought it would be, but nothing that can't be solved with some Citristrip, a few hours, and a good sharpening - except maybe whatever caused them to put electrical tape on the sheath...and it was still a heck of a good deal.

Now to figure out what I want to do to it.

If you've got suggestions, post 'em up. I'll probably ignore them and do what I want, but you never know. ;)

Sweet 1246, that was the first camp knife for me and served me well, King is my new camp knife and Nslice has done a nice mod to his, keep us all posted and share them photo's through the process Great find

Nice score Dunk! I love the look of this blade.

My suggestion for you to ignore would be to grind down the top guard, strip and convex the blade, and recondition the sheath. I think it was IWHAF that hit a pretty beat up sheath with some sort of beeswax concoction? Turned an unsalvageable (in my eyes) sheath into a good looking serviceable one. Guess you'll have to see what awaits you under the electrical tape …

So glad it's in the family! I was watching it...surprised it lasted that long...great deal. Yeah, I figured itd be a stripper, maybe just start with a high grit and smooth it out, maybe expose some edge lines? If ya don't like it just keep going. It's nice underneath the coating. Here's a little inspiration...

Pre patina...

Yours is a beauty Slice.

I'm probably going to end up stripping the whole thing, but thought I'd try my hand at just removing the coating on the hollow/saber ground part. Anyone know what the grind actually is?

Here's to trying...

Thanks! I sanded it off by hand, pretty easy job. Some day I'd love to rehandle it in stacked leather. Thanks for keeping us posted on your progress!

Haven't decided how far I'm going to go with it. You can see some of the dings in the coating that it came with, so I will probably end up stripping the rest off rather than going to the effort to generate a smooth stripped line, but I'm going to leave it this way for a bit before I put much more time in it.
