Well after years of admiring all the survive knives, one finally popped up on the exchange when I was in the position to buy. I wanted a 5, but when I saw the 4.1 become available I went for it...(sure enough a 5 was posted for sale a few days later..go figure) but off first impressions I'm liking it, thou repetitive in size compared to similar knives I own. (Kinda why I wanted the 5, but one day I'll get one or a larger model to pair with the 4.1.)

Nice 3v no jimping. What do you think so far? You used it yet?
No haven't used it yet as I literally just opened it when I took those pix. It's really comfortable in hand, thou if the handle were a ½" longer it'd be perfect. I like the fact there's no jimping on this one thou, seller mentioned it was from a limited run with out it.

Seller said it was new and never used, and I can believe that as there's no signs of use and I love the stonewashed finish...its pretty Damn sharp for a production knife, probably one of the sharpest I've seen...normally sharpening is the first thing I do with a new knife and while it certainly has room for improvement I don't deem it necessary until I dull it down some first.

I'm very curious to see how the steel performs, as I've read great things about 3v especially survive's.

Ultimately I would've preferred the 5 had it came to market before I purchased the 4.1, but o well. I don't see any reason why the 4.1 shouldn't fulfill my needs.

On a side note thou, the 4.1 is almost the exact size as the bk16, does the 5 match the bk2 in size? (Obviously not width)

Congrats on the 4.1!
The BK2 is quite a bit bigger than a GSO 5. I don't have a photo though.

My wife's 4.1 is 3v with no jimping. I also have an edc 4 no jimping. I prefer the spine on hers cause its not as sharp. With the edc I prefer the fatter handle.

I believe the new spec 4.1 does have a longer handle.

Great comparison-pic, Silver

Bobby, I hear you on the desire for more handle length, and Guy may have heard that from lots of folk because the new 4.1 design meets that expectation, per the specs. Here's n1ls' mock-up comparisons:

I bought BK16 off the exchange not long ago, very glad I did as the handle is excellent  I prefer its handle to the old-spec GSO-4.1, but I am eager to compare both to the new spec!

Of those 4 knives you presented, which is your favorite to hold and to use, and why?

EDIT: by the way, of those 4 knives, 3 could be accommodated with a UKE 2.0 if you're interested in modifying your carry options :) http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...niversal-Kydex-Extension-REVISED-and-IMPROVED!!

So while not as bulky and thick as the 2's handle and thickness blade height and length are fairly close...I probably made the better choice with the 4.1 then for a blade that'll be entered into the edc rotation.

... Unless you need a big knife like the GSO-5 for EDC, the 4.1 was definitely a better choice. Some might even consider it a bit large, but the previous iteration was indeed called the EDC-4.

I currently rotate thru the bk16, BOB, and the Bushcrafter so the 4.1 fits right In with em size wise...I did edc the bk2 awhile back but likely wouldn't start again

So which do you prefer - BK16, BOB, or BM? I picked up the BK16 and really like the handle, have tried to get my hands on a BOB for a comparison review to come, but haven't found one at the right price or a willing trade.

It depends really, bk16 is my favorite edc with a 710 custom kydex sheath. In the woods the BOB is my favorite for a all purpose camp knife, it chews thru wood like a beaver and holds an amazing edge. Pair it with a bk9 and a pocket knife and you're covered for anything. Also if you like a fuller grip than get a micarta bob, the g10 variants are noticeably slimmer. Then the 162 is my go to for damp humid environments, or on rainy days I'll be outside...Im waiting for 710 to get back up and running to get some kydex for it...also out of em all I find the 162 handle the most comfortable over extended use.

O and btw sorry I missed the first time you asked..I'm on taptatalk and it didn't refresh after I posted one reply...Just noticed I missed a few posts going back.

I actually pulled out the uke I bought from you with that original strongarm attachment for it. [emoji6]

Hmm that handle looks like it'll be prefect with it lengthened...May have to pick one up when they hit the market...and sell this one. Or a 4.7...

Yeah now that I have my 5.1 starter and like the handle improvements, I have been really looking at the 4.1 or the 4.5. Cant decide

Is there a place to buy additional scales? I see some that have sold when an extra set of scales...I'd love to get black micarta or blue/black g10 scales for mine.
