Got a bk5 recently. Love the feel of it in my hand, reminiscent of another knife (that i cant place). Its like a handle with a knife as oppose to a knife with the handle being an afterthought.

A couple years ago, the bk5 didnt interest me at all. It looked like a fighting knife which is useless to me. Since then ive taken notice how the blade shape makes a versatile tool.

The way i see it, its a big knife for when you have an axe (like you should anyways). And if you dont have an axe, thisll work in a pinch. The swedge is really nice, makes it slice like a thinner knife even though its solid enough stock where it counts.

I must admit, after i got it in hand, i couldnt help but keep it there. Seems like i just walked around the house all day with it in my hand looking for something to cut.

I used it to make some fries this evening, initially, it felt oversized (since it is for this task) but by the time i was 3/4 of the way through it was less cumbersome. Of course this knife is big for potatoes. A knife just right for potatoes is going to be too small for other food, like ham or turkey. This knife feels like itll handle everything by itself.

Overall, i like this knife a lot so far. I look forward to using it much more in the future. (Hopefully the future will include black micarta scales on it)

I use my 5 in the kitchen all the time. It’s my go to meat carver. My 12 year old was using it last night to cut up a pineapple. I have a spare stored in my shed just in case something ever happens to the one in the kitchen. It’s a toss up between the 5 and 16 for my most used Becker.

The 5 and the 15 are my favorites -such useful blade shapes.

The BK5 can do a turkey or a watermelon like no other!

Thanks everyone! Work has been running me ragged so i havent had much chance to put it to significant use.
As far as fixed blade knives go, im trying to only use this knife no matter the task, big or small.
