Another shooting thread up for your enjoyment!
last week one of my co workers traded me a Pedersoli 2nd Model Short Land Pattern Musket (Brown Bess) for some engraving work.
All of a sudden, I have the big bore smooth bore flintlock I wanted!
I got a chance to make a quick trip to the range on Friday, and fire off three shots. I was using 80 grains of FFG, and FFG in the pan. I loaded .735 round ball with a patch for the first two shots. After that, I used a bare ball with a shotgun wad over the powder and another over the ball. On the third shot, since my cheek bone was hurting so bad from the first two busting me in the face, I shot the third one off hand.
The previous owner had a rear sight installed, and i really had to force my cheek down on the stock to get a good sight picture. I'm not terribly recoil sensitive, and it didn't feel bad on the shoulder at all, but this is the roughest I've ever had a stock bite in the face.
The shots were taken at 50 yards. Ignition was very fast.
First shot was in the middle bull, second was upper left, third was lower right, all aimed at the center bull, 6 O'clock hold.
I'm looking forward to working with this gun. I have shot and components to try with it also. next time i will concentrate on how I mount the gun, and not worry about the sight picture, to see if i can get the stock to behave better under ecoil. Then i may remove the rear sight altogether, or alter the stock somewhat.
Kind of like the Mosin Nagant of muzzleloaders! Big flash, big boom, but it hits backwards much harder than the m44. They don't trouble me at all.

Take care,
Tom
