So, inspired by ChadHahn (thanks!) I decided to finally purchase one of my Grail knives - the Buckmaster 184. I bought it off of an auction site for what I think is a pretty good price. It is a 1985 2nd-issue pre-patent with some wear marks from the sheath on the blade, but otherwise in nice shape for a used, 27-year old knife. It came with the sheath and one nylon pouch, no spikes, and no gear in the handle. I am quite happy with it.

The only bad news is - for some reason I can't post photos anymore.... I have before, but can't now. If I figure it out, I'll add some.

OK, figured it out!

awesome! always liked that knife, remember seeing them in catalogs or magazines in the '80's, there were the standard kid rambo knives (cheap, flea market) then there was this screaming at me from the advertisement, talk about knife envy:D looks to be in really nice shape too
nice score

Excellent purchase. I've seen the spikes available from time to time. Congratulations on acquiring a terrific knife after an epic wait.

That's the same one I have.I bought mine back in 85,after watching Rambo,of coarse.Hey,I was only 23 then, and about 1 year out of the Marines. It used to go camping with me alot back then.

bowie69 nice find! Yours like ChadHahn BuckMaster is a Variation(#3)(made middle of July 1985 till Sept 1985) estimated 13,008 bead blasted ones made. This is the same stamping that was on the 2500 BuckMaster's delivered to the US Navy SEALs June 20th 1985..I am just trying to put the right info out there for everyone.. My 2 cents
