Well sadly my neighbor passed away last year and the new owner had it cleaned out as he was a hoarder type fellow. The guy cleaning it asked me if there was anything I might want. I said any old cutlery or axes or guitars I’d be interested in looking at. He gave this ol rusty thing. I believe it’s a Woodings Verona but no real history of the model US94. Any help or info would be great full.

It was made in 1994 by Woodings-Verona

Handle is so dry it defiantly needs rehandled.
Actually that handle is gorgeous. The grain looks very good and once oiled it will turn a beautiful dark brown. Hopefully you haven't cut it off yet?
You might find it challenging to remove the wedge. If so, hit us up here and we can give you some pointers.
I'd wager you'll find that steel to be quite hard. Could be very hard in fact.

No I didn’t remove the handle. I didn’t know oiling was a option. Sorry. I’m a newbie when it comes to axes. Specially handle info. I’ll look into how to save the handle. I just felt it’s so dry and feels brittle. Might not be but just was a assumption based on feel. Thanks I’ll do some research

It seems a lot of people use boiled linseed oil, and some use raw linseed oil. I use the raw, and just wiped excess from oiling other handles on an old Mann axe in maybe the original handle which was all dried up and the head loose fitting. This axe sits head down, and to my surprise the head tightened up, so I'm guessing the oil migrated down and swelled the wood. The stuff does the trick.
