Hi, all first post. But have to thank you guys for past purchases that I read this site before buying. So I just bought a knife from a second hand shop for $12 its stamped Queen Steel #74. I looked at it before but couldn't remember the model number when looking up Queen Cutlery but most of the reviews in general were good so I went back and bought it. Well now that I bought it I can't find much info on the #74. Mainly wondering what steel the blade is made from. Its like their #85 but with more of a white color on the handel than the amber honey color. I'm not sure if its actually bone or more like a composite made to look like bone.

A picture would help a lot. The older Queen knives were 440C, and at some point they changed to 420HC for stainless. They have also used 1095 carbon steel and D2 tool steel. As for the handle material, they've used both bone and Delrin. The Delrin is softer when you try to scratch it.

You can probably get more info in either the Traditional subforum or Bernard Levine's subforum.

Ya maybe I'll post it in one of those forums but here is a picture of it

Here's your pic.

I have one that is quite similar. I was told that it had a bone handle, silver fittings and a 440A blade. Mine definitely has a stainless blade, and the fittings tarnish like silver. I don't know how old is it, but I do know that it belonged to my father. I remember first seeing it about 20 years ago.

Bob W thanks for the tutorial. Chris how do you like your's? I mainly will be using it to gut trout, duck, geese and the occasional squirrel.

It's hard to be certain from a picture, but the scales appear to be Winterbottom Delrin. Here is a picture with a Delrin handle above a Winterbottom Bone handle.

It's very durable. Should last for years. Nice score! Twelve bucks is a great price for that one.
