Well after completely killing my 1996 Blazer, I relented and found me a new truck. I have been wanting another "real" truck for a long time, as once you have a 3/4 or 1 ton nothing else really fills the "truck" void.

Found this one today online, already sent $ on it and will go pick it up next week.

2004 Dodge 2500 SLT 4x4 Cummins 5.9 Turbo Diesel, low miles (76k), and looks like its never towed anything other than groceries.

Im happy.

Very nice, Matt! We just got a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, which is not nearly as nice as yours, but it's the most truck we've ever had. I like Dodge trucks, can't stand Dodge cars.

Phillip that skull would be right at home at your FRONT GATE of your home, or maybe above the shop door!

I've thought of that too. I'll probably put it above my shop door. If I put it on my truck, some sicko would probably steal it....

Welcome to the Cummins club! I've ot an '06 MegaCab 3500 and love it. You've chosen wisely sir.

P.S. Being an '04, you 'll want to read up on the CP3 pump issues that may arise for you so it doesn't catch you off guard...

deker you have exactly what my cousin has, he likes his a bunch too. Ive always wanted a Cummins, used to work on the VT903 a bit.

That looks fantastic.

I'm really happy with my Chevy Avalanche, but there's a big part of me that wants a big ol' diesel 2500, and the Ram is right up there…

I'm a Ford fan typically, but I switched to Dodge to get a decent Diesel. You won't be sorry. I have the same truck but white like all my other ones.

David, ive always been a ford guy as well, but really like that Cummins over the current (or any post 7.3) deisel. Ive actually seen some of the Ford guys put Cummins 5.9s in there truck.

With a really well cared for Dodge Ram and a Cummins Diesel,,,,,looks pretty hard to see anything than you got a fine machine......

Good Luck with a neat machine!

Oh yeah, avoid the temptation to install a programmer until you've got some money saved up for that new beefy trans you'll need...I have a Bully Dog PMT in my truck and it kind of sucks that I'm afraid to really put the hammer down for fear of breaking the tranny. That said, when the time comes and the properly built trans goes in, I should be making 800+ ft/lb on an almost stock setup.

If you're interested in fuel economy more than offroading, stay as close to stock size tires as you can. Sure, they make a truck that size look like a roller skate, but I lost 3-4MPG when I went to the 315s I have on my truck now. Next set of tires I'm switching back. Also, make certain any tires you get are load range 'E'. The extra sidewall stiffness is pretty important with 1000lbs of motor.

Man, I could go on for hours, but this isn't the Cummins forums, so I'll shut up now.

Enjoy the new truck man, they're great vehicles!

deker, thanks for the advice, i was actually thinking about a programmer etc. but will do more research as I DO NOT want to spend a bunch more $$ right now!

I joined that Cummins forum yesturday, so will be looking over there for some info and tips on better fuel economy.

There's lots of good stuff over there. I was half joking about the programmer tho. I mean, being able to use the passing lane to zip out around a sports car in a 4 ton truck is AWESOME. :D You just have to moderate your foot a bit while launching. Don't buy a programmer new though. Guys go through them like candy at the Cummins forum to find the one they like. You can easily save 50% buying from the classifieds over there.

You guys are lucky to live ion a place where gas prices make it possible to afford nice trucks like this. :(

PS: Forgot to add that the trucks themselves are also way cheaper than here.

Great looking truck. I wouldn't worry about tuners right away and hopefully your new truck hasn't had one on it. I bet it'll have a lot more motor to it than the Blazer ever did. I lean towards the Chevy truck, but with any of them, I like the low rpm torque. No fishing around for gears just a good steady pull and some get up and go if you want it. Others will disagree, but they aren't really the best thing for offroading unless you like to go in the down direction and are good with shovels and jacks.

Congrats, Craig

my mileage is better than the family minivan even with diesel costing a little more
