New to me, the TOPS Wild Pig Hunter

Just received my new TOPS Wild Pig Hunter, and couldn’t be happier. I’ve had many knives in my 73 years, but none have felt that they were made just for me. Until today, my Ka-bar D2 Extremes were my favorites. Guess they’ll be preserved and given to family members and/or friends.

Anybody have recommendations for alternative sheaths? Although the accompanying sheath is the best leather sheath I’ve ever owned, I need a Kydex (or similar) for what I need to do. Also advice on carriage, especially concealed, would be most appreciated.

In use/practice with Japanese swords, the sword is carried with the edge up, rather down, as per European style. This protects the edge, and takes only a little practice. Anyone have insight as to how you’d adapt such carriage for concealed carry?

All ideas and information greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This one is also on my "to buy" list.

There are many underarm and shoulder carry knife rigs that carry tip up. Google is your friend. :)

Amazon and Fleabay have numerous listing for kydex for this knife. Any kydex maker should also be able to make you one, assuming they have the knife as a template to mold around.

A little longer jacket.
Shoulder strap with a dangler.
Pressure retainment of the holster on the knife. Usually Kydex part is overlapping the front of the handle and keeps it holsted with some pressure.
To engage, grab handle, pull in any direction you want as it's on the dangler. Non elastic shoulder strap will achieve fast draw.
I did it like that and it worked just fine.

Nice knife...almost as nice as the knife it was copied from, the Kizlyar Phoenix

Both knives have elegant lines, however, I’ve not seen detailed depictions of the Kizlyar. I’ve got “small” hands, and the Rocky Mountain Tread scales fit me perfectly. Too, I like the piercing power of the thick, yet long, slender blade. It’s strength lies in its design, and that is better than what I’d had with both Sykes-Fairbairn and Applegate-Fairbairn knives. Their cross sections were/are too fragile, prone to breakage. Ka-Bar got it’s start, so to speak, when American Marines broke so many of the knives FDR’s son got for the Raiders. Being bored, they’d tried throwing their knives at coconut trees, to see if they’d stick. Nope, they broke. Enter Ka-Bar, and the rest is history. Until the Wild Pig Hunter, I’d carried different iterations of Ka-Bar’s immortal combat knives for more than half a century. Great knives, light, fast, and easy to maintain. Against soft armor? I don’t think so. Not enough heft. Enter the Wild Pig Hunter. In a serious social difficulty, I’ll take the WPH every time. Sharp right out of the box, the 1/4” thick, 1095 HCS steel, 25 degree beveled edge is stout enough to slice through bone, tendons, and any meat. Serious knife for serious people and situations. My Ka-Bars now sit on the bench, waiting for others in need…

The Kizlyar is a good knife, but with blood, oil, water, mud- whatever, slippage would be a serious concern. Unless someone’s always wearing non-slip type gloves, things could be “iffy.” Nice design, well capable. Just not my choice.

Well, they offer the same model with an Elastron handle. Elastron will not slip in your hands, no matter if they're oily, bloody or else.
I own two Kizlyars and they have the most comfortable handles i've ever handled.

They also made a shorter version.

I'm not saying this one is better than yours, just letting you know that the design is a blatant copy, i.e. intellectual theft by TOPS. Some people have a problem with that.

Thanks for the info! I’m always happy to learn! All the Best…
