I picked this up for $4 out the door at a local pawnshop today. I'm assuming it's from the '70s-ish. I don't know if this would be called a Scout or a Camper model.

The pull was about a 1 1/2 on the main blade. Cleaning out and oiling the pivot made it snap again, but it's still only about a 2 1/2 or so.

The blade had a spot of heavy red rust that I knocked off, and I ran some 400 grit wet/dry over the blade, springs and bolsters. It cleaned up nicely, I think.

I'll put an edge on it tomorrow probably and see how it sharpens up.

I'd love to hear and others stories and pictures of this type of knife, a well as some possible dating hints, which I think will be difficult at best.

The four tools make it a classic "Scout, " but you can call ti a "camper" - or a radish for that matter. ^___^

^^^ not necessarily the military issued ones are known as "Demo" knives.

The knife on the right is my very first knife from 1978 Imperial Kamp-King
The knife on the left was my Boy Scout knife from the 80's Ulster

This one is a Ulster Dwight Divine & Sons from 1923-1941

I didn't know that you were in girl scouts :D

Stitch, I saw the shield and though it was a scout knife, then saw GS stamped in it and thought Girl Scout knife.

Is that what makes it a Girl Scout knife? How do you know a date range?

The clover shield with GS is the Girl scout Shield, can opener ( known as a safety can opener) is after 1944, the plastic handle was used on Girl Scout knives in the 70's before that they used bone or the mottled green "mother of pearl"or striped green celluloid handles. Also older shields had a eagle on them. I can't really see your tang stamp too well but some of the say Featherweight under the Utica. Is there a Patent # on the back of the can opener? Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, for some reason there is not a lot of info on girl scout knives? I know I came across some old adds that were pretty sexist in today's world, when I was seeking out info on my Ulster Dwight Divine

Then the Kutmaster scout I just picked up must be pre-1945. (Nice to know; thanks Stitch.)
MIne has a straight-backed, curved-edge blade that looks like it must stab through the can and cut upward with the edge while rocking on the rim with a small hollow on the back.
Hard to describe- I'll post a pic later in case anyone's interested.

That's the new Kutmaster above and an old Imperial below.

Scout knives have all sorts of tells, can openers are a big one, shields, especially on official scout knives, handle material, nail nicks or long pulls, and tang stamps. They all have to match up, on my Ulster Dwight Divine & Sons, earlier ones had long pulls and just the addition of the " S " in Son to Sons changes the dating. If it was Dwight Divine & Son 1900-1923, Dwight Divine & Sons 1923-1941.

Johnny if enough of us get together he can earn a merit badge, I think it would be a nice addition to the uniform :-)

You guys are hilarious, let me tell you. :D

I have a girl scout at home, my oldest daughter. She's also my outdoor buddy, and already has been coon-fingering this knife. I told my wife yesterday that I'm going to give it to her once it's cleaned up and sharpened. We have some pink paracord we got the other day for making bracelets, I'm going to make a lanyard for it too.

I guess what I'm saying is this........when she starts selling cookies next year, you guys aren't getting any!! :D

Ps, this thread is why I love this place. :D

Also, just for everyone's information, as many boxes of cookies that I sold and delivered this past season, I should have earned my merit badge twice or thrice over.

I'm glad you found my humor funny, after seeing yours I'm gonna seek one out at the flea market to put away for my daughter, (she's only 8 months) I know my Dwight Divine and my old Ulster scout knives are solid, I got my first knife at six so I should be able to find one for her.

It's a "Girl Scout" knife because it was made for the Girl Scouts, but it's every bit as 'much' knife as other Scout knives.
They didn't specifically make it wimpy.
I believe the Feather Weight is a 3 blade GS knife.
The various issues of GS knives show up regularly on ebay and make for nice knives to collect (or use).

You guys are making me hungry!

Great knife medicivans, if I had girls they'd be Girl Scouts and have nice knives.

Speaking of can openers, I'd love to know how the can opener on the knife scrteened porch showed works. My Colonel Coon has one like that, and the Schatt & Morgan Scouts have the same type as well. Not that I would use it, a P-38 is always in my Scout pack, but I'd still love to know.
