Just found this at a junk/antique shop on my road trip, Boker 8588 just thought I would show it off and ask about the condition, mainly is there any way I can fix the bow in the scales and one of the liners (one of the pictures are of the springs and you can see the bow/bulge)

I can upload one tomorrow

it is boker USA, has the boker tree and 8588, I'd really like to know how to date the knife

With Boker USA the shield is what is used for dating not the tang stamp, Bokers are the hardest knives to date accurately as they often reintroduce tang stamps, but if you can post a clear pic of the shield I can get you pretty close. I see your shield is the tree, is there a R in a circle ( trademark )to the right ?

Going from your picture quality and going from the info you provided ( Boker USA) I've narrowed it down to these three

Pre 1975 1968-1970ish

After 1975

Cooper Group Bokers 1977-1983

Hope this helps

that is a celluloid handle isn't it? Could this be a clue to the age, as this material is no longer used (btw if it is celluloid keep that knife separate from the others as the degassing will rust the metal).

To be perfectly honest I don't know, they may be, they are a cracked ice design though.

I think I will sharpen this one up when I get home and carry it for a while

If its this shield I narrowed it down to J. Wiss & Sons era

Thanks Jack, I have a ton of Boker info saved, I once contacted Boker to see if they had some info, and I apparently had more info they they had, because of the company being bought and sold, files did not follow, their records were incomplete.

Pete

This was from Boker

" I have absolutely no information on this knife. My records prior to 1965 are
not very complete. I cannot see this model listed. I will not be able to
assist you on this. "

That bow in the liner is odd, probably somebody prising in there. On the other hand as fatcorgi notes, this could the the beginning of the end...gassing from Cell! Keep an eye on it and keep it away from others. Tidy knife find though.

LOL! Do you know Pete, strangely, that doesn't surprise me!

Can you assist with this one at all?
