I've been lurking here in this forum for a while, noting recommendations, tips and tricks for wet shaving, and have finally bit the bullet on the purchase of some vintage razors.

I just bought a 1958 Gillette TV Super Speed, a Schick Stick and a Pal adjustable for right at $40.00 on Ebay.

I'd been looking for a while, but decided to be cautious and wait for the right time, and it seems that the time is now.

The razors all appear to be in good working order and the Gillette comes with some 1958 vintage blades. I hope to work the bugs out of my shaving technique before I deploy overseas in a few months. I had watched all the males in my immediate family shave with these types of razors for years, but by the time I started shaving, the disposable craze had hit full swing, and that's what I started out with.

I just a couple of years ago started using shaving soap and brush, and I like the results a lot better than what I get with canned shave cream.

I'm looking forward to stepping back in time with my shaving experience.

I don't think it wold be a good idea to use those vintage blades:p

I remember watching my father use an old Gillette DE razor, even gave it a go when I split open my chin, but jumped back to the cartridge style. Now I am waiting for a Edwin Jager 89L to be delivered in the next couple of days and will be giving it a go again. I made the switch to soap and a brush about a month ago and love it, so I hope this time I get the hang of the DE razor so I can enjoy the full experience.

Yeah, I have no plans to use those vintage blades any time soon. New blades are on the menu soon.

I'm taking my time with this experiment, and I ain't in no itchin' hurry to go scraping away with these things until I give them a good once-over and cleaning.

It is always nice to have a few vintage razors. No matter what you decide to do with them they will always be good have for the future. The resell value could go up or you could keep them as heirlooms. You also got a good price on eBay!

Well, my razors arrived in the mail yesterday. The Gillette is in pristine condition, without a scratch, belmish or discoloration anywhere on it that I can see. The mechanism works just as it should, and I look forward to giving it a try as soon as my blades arrive.

The Pal looked to be in decent shape, but upon inspection, I found that it is actually broken in the part behind the blade. I'll have to post a pic because I don't know the terminology to describe the area that's broken.

The Schick Stick looks to be in good shape, but you can tell it's been used a good bit. there is an area of wear or discoloration on the front of the razor, and a little discoloration of the plastic handle, but the razor appears usable as is.

I ordered a sample pack of different brands of double-edged blades off of Amazon.com, and I'm going to take my time and see which brand I like the best.

I'm looking forward to trying this new-to-me shaving experience.
